Highs and Lows for Ulster’s Youth at Inter-Regional Road

aaThe 2014 UK Inter-Regional Road Championships will go down as Ulster`s most successful participation so far in these competitions, but is unfortunately balanced somewhat by the spills a couple of our riders were involved in over the course of the 3-day competition.

The entire concept is an excellent one devised by British Cycling to bring together the 12 British Cycling regions, with Ulster included to make 13 teams comprising 4 Boys and 4 Girls. Each year there is a UK School Games, a multi-sport competition largely mirroring the Olympics, and dependent on the venue, will determine the discipline of the Cycling within the `Games.… Read more

Ulster Youths Impress in UK Inter-regionals.

aDay two of the UK inter-regional youth road championships saw highs and lows for the 8-strong Ulster squad who experienced a podium finish but also a couple of painful crashes.

First up was the street sprint events; a highbrid event combining track-like skills in a road setting. The first run is a timed run over the 250m course to determine the seeding with Ciara Doogan again excelling to record the 3rd fastest time with club mate 'pocket rocket' Shauna McFadden posting 10th quickest time.

Roisin Carter also made it in to the top 15 with pre-event favourite Shenna McKiverigan unfortunately crashing out in her effort to record the fastest time.… Read more

Great Day Out With McCall Foundation

aThe David McCall Foundation's annual autumn youth day in Crumlin had all the right ingredients for a great day out for the kids.

There was sponsorship from Maryland stalwart Gerry McCann and support on the ground from current Maryland Wheelers club members.

The pleasant weather attracted many kids and parents to the event for the 3 distances for the 3 ages groups ranging from 10 -16 and all had a great time with only one mishap to report on the road. Thankfully young Mark's sore shoulder is on the mend and the Foundation sends its thanks to his very understanding mum and the fantastic medic Andrea Nash who comforted Mark.… Read more

The course takes in a circuit around the lakes starting from the Watersports centre which has a café, separate room for sign on, showers, toilets and bike wash facilities.  Beside the car park there is the grassy hill section which has a large stone erected on the top as the focal point and is surrounded by a circular line of trees.  … Read more
