Walsh and Meehan Take Bronze in Tandem Sprint
The Irish spirit really shined through on todays last day of the 2012 UCI Paracycling Track World Championships in Carson L.A. In this morning’s Sprint qualification round Irish Pursuit World Champions set a new Irish Record of 12.259 to leave them in 4th place and secured the last available place in this afternoon’s Match Sprint finals.
Male tandem pairing of Andrew Fitzgerald and Con Collis put in a good performance to record a time of 11.631 which left them in 17th place.
The Irish Team Sprint squad of Colin Lynch, Enda Smyth and Cathal Miller finished just outside the top 10 taking 11th place in a New Irish Record time of 56.840.… Read more
Third Rainbow Jersey for Ireland
Day 2 of the 2012 Paracycling Track World Championships in Carson L.A. saw the Irish Paracycling squad secure yet another Rainbow Jersey for Ireland. Colin Lynch followed up on the success of the 3km Female Tandem Pursuit World Champions Catherine Walsh and her Pilot Francine Meehan yesterday by finishing in first place in this morning’s qualifications and then riding a terrific Final race to set a new Irish Record of 3:51.640 when beating the Chinese World Record Holder by six seconds in a great ride off for the Gold medal.… Read more
Irish Team Announced for Final World Cup Event
The Irish Cycling Team has been announced for the third and final World Cup event of the 2011-12 season. The London Olympic Velodrome is the venue for this final round, which is being used as a test event for the Olympic Games in August.
Martyn Irvine heads the team, with his sights set on securing more valuable points for Olympic Qualification. Irvine has been performing consistently this season, with a top five result in the Omnium at the last round in Beijing. The Omnium is a new event in the Olympics, and involves cyclists competing in 6 events with points awarded according to their finish position in each event.… Read more
Phoenix GP, John Moore, Clann Eireann Events Open for Pre-Entry
Things are beginning to hot up as the road race season fast approaches. With the Carn Wheelers Classic almost full already, Phoenix CC , Castlereagh CC and Clann Eireann CC have anounced that their events are now open for pre-entry. The Phoenix GP is the second race of the season taking place on the Nutts Corner Circuit on Sunday 26th February, a mere two two weeks away. Phoenix CC are promoting no less than five events including the popular UWA event and the first of this year's 50+ Masters Events.There will also be a separate A3 race so an ideal opportunity for ambitious A3 riders to gain valuable early season points.… Read more
Brilliant Start by Irish Paracycling Squad
The 2012 Paracycling Track World Championships got off to the best possible start for the Irish Team this morning at the Home Depot Velodrome in Carson L.A. In the 3km Female Tandem Pursuit Qualifiers Catherine Walsh and her Pilot Francine Meehan set a new Irish Record of 3:37.392 to finish in first place and guarantee a ride off for the Gold Medal in the afternoon’s finals.
Irish tandem newcomers Katie-George Dunlevy and Pilot Sandra Fitzgerald showed that they will be future contenders when setting a PB time of 3:48.767 to give them an excellent 7th place finish in the qualifiers.… Read more
Rainbow Jerseys for Paracycling Squad
In an unbelievable result Fran Meehan and Catherine Walsh became the first ever Irish Paracycling Track World Champions. The rainbow jersey will come home to Ireland courtesy of a hard working pair and their excellent back up team.
As if that was not enough Damian Shaw piloting James Brown won winning Ireland's first ever men's Silver medal. We all remember Damian’s excellent performance in the 2011 Rás Dhun nan Gall where he dominated the race. It is great to see him also supporting Ireland’s paracycling squad.… Read more
Talent Team 2020 Finding Their Feet – Off Road
Tollymore Outdoor Adventure Centre was the venue for the Female 2020 Talent Team's second training camp. The focus was on Mountain Biking and Tollymore was the perfect venue with its purpose designed Mountain Bike Skills Courses to take this enthusiastic young group.
Set at the foot of the Mourne Mountains, Tollymore is an excellent venue and deserves much praise. There are a variety of skills courses catering for beginners to elite rider's right next to the centre, which was perfect for this group with such a wide range of skill.… Read more
Ulster Women Line up for Ras na mBan
A team of five women headed for Kerry yesterday to take part in Ireland's only international women's stage race. The team of Many Collie, Maeve Savage, Mary Hunter, Louise Fullerton and Amy Brice were selected by the Ulster Women's Association and are managed by Sean McNicholl.
This year the event is being run over five days to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the event and will be a real test for the Ulster women as few stage races last as long.
The event kicks off this evening with a short first stage of 58km but features the famous climb to Molls Gap which will test riders' legs right from the start.… Read more
Bikedock Belles Complete TransAlp
The Bikedock Belles cycling and multi sport team took on one of the most gruelling mountain bike challenges in Europe recently, completing the TransAlp. The mental and physical test of the event meant that over 100 out of the 556 pairs that started the 8 day event failed to make it to the finish line.

Horgan Notches Up 5th National Title
The Nartional Women's Road Race Championships took place around Scotstown last Saturday. On the seven mile rollout a crash occurred involving Julie Mulligan of Omagh and two other riders. Julie managed to get back on to the bunch but Usher's Gillian McDarby had to abandon as she was unable to get a replacement bike.

The race started slowly as th ewomen watched each other to see who would make the first move. Eventually Francine Meehan of Tullamore CC had enough of the cat and mouse tactics and made a break for it.… Read more
