Brice Takes First Points in Bikeworks League

Amy Brice of Phoenix CC took the first points in the Women's time Trial League sponsored by Bikeworks of Bangor with an excellent 24.43. The event was held on the Woodgreen course and hosted by Ballymena Chain Reaction.

The evening stayed dry but riders faced a strong headwind on the return leg. Fortyfive competitors turned up for the Event which was also the Stan Finlay '10' and Brice's time put her in 11th position overall. There were thirteen women taking part in the Bikeworks league.

Mary Hunter of  Dromara CC was next fastest of the women with 25.36 just ahead of Rachael Withers of westtyronevelo who recorded a 25.41.… Read more

Time Trial Season Begins

UWA Bikeworks TT League Round 1 -Wednesday 18th April
The open time trial season gets underway this coming Wednesday night when Ballymena host the first round of the Bikeworks UWA Time Trial League on the A26 Woodgreen course.

The sign-on is at Woodsides Kitchens on the A26 from 6.00pm with the first rider off at 7.00pm. A working rear red light is compulsory for this event.

This event is also the first selection event for any women interested in being selected to ride in the Celtic Chrono on Sunday 13th May.… Read more

Selection Information – Celtic Chrono

Cycling Ulster has been asked to select two riders to represent their clubs at the Celtic Chrono event which will be held on Sunday 13th May. This is a U.C.I. Elite Women’s Time Trial of approximately 35 km and will start and finish within the grounds of the Stormont Estate. The top 25 names in the world of female cycling will be invited and the remainder of the field will consist of the top riders in Europe, Ireland and the UK. The current Irish Time Trial Champion and the current British Time Trial Champion will be in attendance.… Read more

Beggs/McGreevy Races Open for Pre-entry

On Saturday 28th April Banbridge CC will be hosting a full days racing to accommodate all categories around the John Beggs and Sean McGreevy Memorials on the well-known Dromore circuit. With the inclusion of Ballykeel hill and Drumlough every lap it’s a testing race for everyone and always ensures a worthy winner.  Last year saw a victor in Martyn Irvine who recently secured an Olympic spot for Ireland after a successful World Track Championships in Melbourne.

Good Luck to All Ulster Riders on National Teams

A good contingent of Ulster riders have been selected for National Development teams for various events over the Easter Holidays.

The Male 2020 Team for the Youth Tour of Scotland has three of the four riders from Ulster and includes Declan Mulholland, Mark Downey and Aaron Swan.

Declan Mulholland (Clann Éireann)
Michael O' Loughlin (Iverk Produce Carrick Wheelers)
Aaron Swan (TCR Racing).

All four riders are current All-Ireland champions in different disciplines. Downey, who will captain the team, has prepared by getting special permission to ride A3 events. … Read more

Congratulations to Caroline Ryan

Caroline Ryan put in a superb performance today in Australia in the World Track Championships. She took a bronze medal in the Women's Points race.

Caroline rode very aggressively during the 100 lap 25km race. By gaining a lap on the field with three other riders she put herself in a good position to secure a high overall finish. Ryan then continued to ride strongly and by scoring some sprints points thus helping to secure the podium finish.

Caroline is a former Irish National Champion in rowing and competed at International level including the World Rowing Championships and became the first Irish woman to win at Henley Royal Regatta when she won the Princess Royal Challenge Cup in 2008.… Read more

2020 Women’s Youth Team Head to Scotland

Following the recent trials in Corkagh Park, a strong women's team from the Talent Team 2020 has been announced for the upcoming Youth Tour of Scotland, which starts on the 5th April. This is an exciting time for women's cycling, as it has been many years since Ireland has had a women's youth team has lining up at an international overseas event.

The Youth Tour of Scotland is a joint venture between British Cycling and Scottish Cycling, and is described as the most exciting youth stage place that takes place in the UK.… Read more

Val Flies to Victory

The third round of the UWA Sportactive Road Race league took place on Sunday at Bartin's Bay promoted by Clann Eireann.

There was a good turnout of women for the event, with some new faces prepared to give the racing scene a go. Phoenix CC lined out a full squad, who had all been schooled in race tactics and riding during the week, and were here to put into practice what they had learned. The sight of this green and blue army before the race may have been enough to give them a psychological advantage over the other women.… Read more

Feast of Racing at Bartins Bay

The annual Aghagallon Cup got underway early this morning on the shores of Lough Neagh at Bartins Bay. Promoted by Clann Eireann, the day began with a full programmes of youth racing including an event for beginners.

There was good sized field of U16's and they were out to make their mark and the pace was hard from the start.Aaron Swan and Craig Crawford were to the fore in trying to open a gap but the bunch were having none of it and kept pulling them back.… Read more

Round 3 SportActive RR League this Sunday

The SportActive RR League continues this Sunday at Bartins Bay with Clann Eireann's promotion of the Aghagallon Cup. The women's race is due to start at 11.45 am and will be nine laps of the 3.5 mile course.

The numbers continue to grew and there are new faces appearing each week. Frieda Brown of Banbridge has made a welcome return to road racing scene and has shown she is still strong while Aoibheann Bartley of Lakeland continues to show form. Phoenix CC's Amy Brice has been honing her skills in A4 racing recently and is another rider to watch out for in the coming months.… Read more
