Great XC Event in Lady Dixon Park
Lady Dixon Park in Belfast was the venue for third round of the 2014 Irish National Point Series (NPS) which took place on Sunday 25 May. This round also doubled up as Round 3 of the Ulster Cross-country mountain bike series and was hosted by local club Xmtb McConvey Cycles. This venue has known some great racing over the last 5 years and normally the riders would be enjoying dry dusty and fast trails around the beautiful park which is managed by Belfast City Council. World University Cycling Championships 2014 – Poland
Criteria Announced for the World University Cycling Championships in Poland
The Selection Criteria has been announced for the World University Cycling Championships which take place in Poland from the 9-13 July, and Cycling Ireland are inviting eligible road riders to apply to take part. The aim is to have a male and female team at these Championships, with those deemed to be of a suitable standard, as assessed by the Student Sport Ireland High Performance Committee, competing.

Rás Dhun na nGall 2014 - 30th May - 1st June
The Four Masters Cycling Club, in conjunction with the Nesbitt Arms Hotel and the Ardara Town Traders, has just announced that the 2014 Ras Dhun na nGall three-day stage race will take place in Ardara, Co. Donegal on the 30th May, 31st May and 1st June. Online entry is now available on the club website, www.fourmasterscycling.com The entry fee is €55 per person, rising to €65 on 10th May. Tour of Omagh Information – A4/Women’s Stage Race

The county town of Omagh is the place to be this June for the best A4 racing cyclists across Ireland. The 3-day stage race takes place from 27-29th June and features a similar format to previous years with three road stages and one time trial stage. Of those stages, two of the road stages have challenging new routes to ensure the race keeps fresh and offers riders something different. Interestingly, the race will not feature a hill-top finish this year, but will however provide hard hilly routes to help provide dynamic and exciting racing.… Read more
Competitive Racing at Emyvale
Emyvale CC had an incredible turnout of cyclists for the Grand Prix Sponsored by Barry Mc Kenna Agri Hire Emyvale on a fast rolling course which produced exciting racing going through the North Monaghan villages of Glaslough and Emyvale.
There were four separate senior events with the women's event being part of the National League.
There was also a full programme of events for the Youth riders. Emyvale Credit Union Sponsored the youth events.
In A1/A2 race Greg Swinard produced a mammoth ride to hold off the main bunch for the entire last lap for the win.… Read more
Competitive Events this Week including Track at Orangefield and Youth Events
Track Training and Accreditation Thursday 15th May
On Thursday night training and track accreditation will get underway at the Tommy Givan outdoor track at Ornagefield, Belfast. For those who would like to try track racing then this is the place to be as you will need to be accreditated before being allowed to enter competition. If you do not have a track specific bike a small number are available for hire for a nominal sum.
Unfortunately as this is an outdoor track it cannot be used when it is raining so the event may be cancelled if the inclement weather continues.… Read more
Parton Best of Women in Rd 2 Slane Cycles League
Nine women lined up last night for Round 2 of the Slane Cycles' Women's Time Trial league. The event was promoted by Phoenix CC.
Keri Parton of Dromara CC took maximum points with a time of 25.28 for the tough Templepatrick course.
There were new faces giving it a go and it shows how Women's cycling is beginning to grow and develop in this country. The evening also saw the return of some familiar faces to the TT scene, including Mary Hunter and Kay Hack. This combination of seasoned testers and enthusiastic newcomers should make for a good competitive season of time trialling.

West Down GP Saturday 24th May
The West Down Wheelers will promote the West Down GP on Saturday 24th May 2014. This event is now open for pre-entry. There are 3 Races on offer, the (A) Race for A2/A3 category riders only (Limited to 80 riders), the (B) Race for A4 category riders only (Limited to 80 riders) and the Masters (over 50's) and Women. This will be a counter in the Ulster women's Road Race League.
The (A) race will cover 6 laps of the circuit and on the last lap (the 6th Lap) it will take in the sting in the tail, the Rathfriland Hill and then back again to the finish at Katesbridge as per last year, the race distance is approx 56 miles.… Read more

The 2014 Ernie Magwood Super 6 league kicked off in a similar fashion to 2013. A bright pleasant but breezy morning faced the riders along with a course which was 320m long thanks to an Audi trip meter, cue cries of my Garmin says 10.18 miles etc etc. Regardless, Darrell Erwin, only recently

Brief Report Mid Ulster GP
As well as youth racing Harps CC also promoted races for women, Masters and A1-A3/A4 riders. The Women and Master did four laps of the shorter 7.5 mile circuit and these were run as separate races.
It was a tough circuit but in the end relative newcomer to women's cycling, Joanne Regan from termoneeny CC took the win ahead of Jane Millar of Bann Wheelers.Lorraine Jeffers of East Tyrone put in a marvellous perfomance to take third considering that she had also raced on Saturday in the Lakeland GP.… Read more
