Danny Boy Races Open on Monday

The Roe Valley CC Danny Boy Races will be open for entry at 8.00pm on Monday the 27th of February. The races are being held on Sunday the 12th of March, sign on starts at 9.30am at race HQ, in St Mary's GAA club, Feeney, County Derry . Women and Masters may sign on the day.

Full Day of Racing at Phoenix GP

aThe hard-working team at Phoenix CC were kept going from early morning as the club promoted racing for all senior categories at the George Rooney Phoenix GP.

First up were the Masters and the over sixties were given a  two minute handicap back to the over fifties. The pace was hard and the long drag back to the finish took its toll on some riders. Coming to the line there was a full on sprint for the finish which was taken by Brian Hannan of Banbridge CC.… Read more

National Youth Cyclo Cross Championships Sunday 19th Feb 2017

1aDespite the recent tragedy to hit Orwell Wheelers when club member Tonya McEvoy was tragically killed when on a training spin, the club are proud to host the National Youth Cyclo Cross Championships this Sunday. The webteam at Ulster Cycling News would like to offer its sincere condolences to the club on the death of Tonya McAvoy. We also send our deepest condolences to her family - her parents Pat and Brian, her brothers Brian and Keith and sister Ciara. Cold Day For West Down’s Sportive

2The West Down Wheelers Coastal Sportive took place yesterday and it was a challenge for hard woman and men. The riders faced snow, biting winds and 65 miles of hills around the beautiful Mourne Mountains with stunning sea views.

However, the hard-working West Down Club made sure that it was all worthwhile as the they tasty homemade hot soup waiting for all the one hundred plus finishers back home in Katesbridge.

The Belgian project & Children’s Heartbeat Trust (Royal Belfast Hospital ) each received £400 of the proceedings and both organisations appreciate these donations very much.… Read more

Cyclist Gear Up For Travers Engineering Annaclone GP

46Cyclists get ready to descend on Annaclone as Irish racing season gets under way this Saturday. Opening the Irish  road racing season, the Banbridge CC promoted Travers Engineering Annaclone GP will take place this Saturday, 18th February. Two races will be hosted, both of which will start and finish outside the Hawthorne Inn. The main attraction of the day will be the ‘A’ race cateringfor A1, A2 & A3 category riders which starts at 12 noon and will cover  76km.  This will be a handicapped affair with the A3 riders receiving a competitive handicap over their A2 and A1 counterparts. … Read more

Cycling Ulster Off-road Commission – Youth Coaching Sessions

The Cycling Ulster Off-road Commission plan to run a series of coaching sessions aimed at the U12/U14/U16 age groups. These intermediate level sessions are aimed at existing racers who would  like to improve their technical riding skills with the aim of improving their race results. The first of the sessions is planned for Saturday 11th February at Barnetts Demesne trail centre at 12:30 pm at the Mary Peters car park at the trail head. The session will be lead by Mark Harvey, a Level 2 Mountainbike Instructors Association coach (MIAS).… Read more

The George Rooney Phoenix GP Now Open

tomThe start of the road racing season is just round the corner and before it comes the pre-entry race for places in the early season events. The George Rooney Phoenix Grand Prix will take place on Sunday 19th February this year. As usual there is pre-entry on Entrycentral.com which will open at 7pm tonight (Wednesday 1st Feb) and close on the 14th February on entry central. As entry is on a first come, first served basis with a limit on the entries for each race, riders are urged to submit their entry as soon as possible.… Read more

Dunloy CC Inaugural Reliability Trial Sunday 5th February

dunloyDunloy Cycling Club are delighted to invite all holders of 2017 licences to take part in a Reliability Trial on Sunday 5th February. Sign-on will be available from 9:15 in the Dunloy GAC Clubrooms on the Bridge Road where sufficient car parking is available. Two routes have been approved: the first is a demanding 72 miles taking in a large part of the 2014 Giro D'Italia Stage 2, the second 55 mile route will avoid Ballypatrick Forest, Loughareema and Cushendall however will encounter Glenshesk instead. Both bunches will be accompanied by a pace car. Read more
