Feast of Crits and TT’s During the Week

From hard paced, technically skillful criteriums to man against the clock, those who enjoy this sort of racing have a glut of it this week. There are three crits on with Old Bleach promoting the Antrim crit on Tuesday, Ards CC running Town Centre races on Wednesday and the Bann Wheelers promotion of the Coleraine crit on Thursday. Please Note : Phoenix CC's  Crit in the Part on Friday night is cancelled. For the testers the TVR TT Series continues on Wednesday evening while the Ernie Magwood Series takes place on Thursday and on Sunday Ballymoney run their Father's Day 25 mile TT. … Read more

McIntyre and Mitchell At The Draynes Farm Bobby Crilly – videos added.

20160611_135940Around 150 riders gathered for the two races a the Draynes Farm Bobby Crilly classic this year.  There were two races the A2/3 race and the A4 race.

The A2/3 race started the circuit with six laps to tackle before the famous climb to the top of Divis.  The racing was aggressive throughout with many attacks but the decisive racing was made, as it usually is, on the climb.  There was a headwind up the climb this year and so despite the steep gradients along the main road from Dundrod village it was a bunch much larger than usual that entered the gate of Divis together.… Read more

07/06/2016 Ciclisport Glenshane TT Round 2

c1The Ciclisport Glenshane TT Series promoted by Carn Wheelers continued last night with the second ten mile TT on the Glenshane pass. Craig McAuley was on form and took the win in the Elite class with a time of 20.12. Second placed rider was John Madden of Inspired Cycling who was also the first of the M50 class. Madden completed the course in a time of 21.03.  Third place went to Junior rider, Conor McCann (Asea Wheelworx) with a time of 21.15.

Second Elite rider was the home club's Joseph McCrory who recorded a 21.27 while third Elite was his club-mate, Jonny Taylor with a time of 21.31.… Read more

Ernie Magwood TT Series Rd 3 Open – Pre-entry only

Round 3 of the 2016 Hayes Fuels Ernie Magwood Super 6 league takes place at Woodgreen on Thursday 16th June.  Sign on is from 18:30 with first rider off at 19:30 Pre entry is compulsory for riders wishing to be included in the leagues results. Riders will require a minimum of a limited competition licence, and also a rear light. (Front light also advisable)
All other TT rules apply. No warming up on course after 10am, no passing timekeeper, no drafting or white lining. Please treat all riders, officials and volunteers with respect if you wish to return.… Read more

Reminder – Carn Wheelers Glenshane TT Series Tonight

The Carn Wheelers CicliSport Glenshane TT Series - Round 2 takes place tonight, Thursday 9th June and will be on the same course as before, straight out from the Glenshane Pass, round the Castledawson Roundabout (which will be fully marshalled) and straight back – potentially the fastest TT course in the province.

This Week’s Events

There are lots of events on during this coming week starting off with the Maiden City Criterium in Derry and the Maxwell Memorial Time Trial in Warrenpoint  both taking place this evening. On Thursday night there is another crit taking place  in Ballymoney while at the weekend we have a couple of leisure cycles such as Cycle for Oisin, Saddlerock Fundraiser, Slieve Gullions Leisure Event and the Hills of Donegal Tour as well as road racing with the Bobby Crilly Classic on Saturday and the John Mulligan Perpetual Trophy on Sunday.… Read more

Fast Racing At Bishopscourt

There was lots of exciting racing on Saturday at Bishopscourt Motor Racing Circuit but this time the roar of supped up engines was exchanged for the whirr of pedal powered vehicles. The event was the annual Emma McMullan and Ronnie Smyth road races promoted by Dromara CC. For a number of years now Dromara have promoted these races on the safe off road circuit of Bishopscourt. With its smooth, well tarmaced surface and clear view of the racing it made for a fast laps and a great spectator sport.… Read more

Stenson Retains Lead In Donegal

aStage 2 of Rás Dhun  na nGall got off to a fine start this morning in dry and sunny conditions.  For those that have taken part in this race in the past there was a sigh of relief that road works prevented the stage starting on the tough hill climb route from Mahera Sands which has been used in previous years. This year the course took riders out the main Killybegs Road and the original intention was to finish on top of the climb at ‘The Nick’.… Read more

Stenson Takes First Yellow in Rás Dhun na nGall

aThe main street of the small Donegal heritage town of Ardara was a colourful spectacle this evening as the multi-coloured bunting and flags of many nations flapped gently on the warm breeze signalling that the Melting Pot music festival was underway. But on top of this the men and women riders sporting the  bright colours of their cycling clubs and teams from all around Ireland added to the buzz signalling that the 2016 Rás Dhun na nGall was about to get underway.

Ray Stanton as chief commissaire  paired up with Jack Watson as second Comm, were keeping everyone on their toes regarding the rules and regulations and John Curran in charge of proceedings as Race Director finally the riders were  lined up for the rollout ofArdara.… Read more
