Causeway Cycle Challenge this Sunday

The Causeway Cycle Challenge will take place this Sunday 31st July 2016 promoted by Bann Wheelers.  Sign-on will be available at Coleraine Rugby Club from 8:30 with a mass ride out at 10:00am. This event is now open for pre-entry on Entry Central.There are two routes available, 40 miles and 65 miles with support and refreshments.  The 65 mile route takes in the spectacular Dark Hedges.

The minimum donation will be £10 with proceeds going to local selected charities. Additional £2 leisure event insurance fee to be paid on the day if no Cycling Ireland licence held.… Read more

Up-coming Events Leisure and Competitive

There are a number of events coming up in the next week. These include two time trials, a crit in Strabane and the Leisure event promoted by Castlereagh CC. Full details below.

Bann Wheelers Cycling Club are celebrating their 50th anniversary in 2016. Having already produced a successful Open Race and more recently a town centre Crit,this time they are running their Causeway Cycle Challenge. Leisure Events This Weekend

There are a number of leisure events around Ulster this coming weekend. These include the making a Difference Worldwide Annual Charity Cycle, the Wheelin' in the Years Cycle promoted by Sheelin Fliers, the Sligo to Letterkenny Cycle and the Ladies Only Purple Pedal promoted by Killinchy CC. Upcoming Events This Week

There are a few events coming up this week starting with the Clann Eireann promoted Lurgan Criterium on Friday night and a couple of leisure cycles at the weekend. With the National Road and TT Championships taking place from Thursday through to Sunday there are no road race events this weekend. Details of events can be see below. Apollo CT’s ‘Off the Sofa to Saddle’ Sportive

apOn Sunday the progressive Apollo CT who celebrate their twentieth anniversary this year is promoting its ABC Sportive which is the culmination of their Sofa to Saddle programme.  People in the Armagh, Banbridge,  Craigavon area have been on a 10 week programme hosted by local cycling clubs, Apollo CT, Dromore CC, Banbridge CC and Portadown CC.

This is part of a funded Public Health Agency scheme along with Armagh City, Banbridge & Craigavon Borough Council   A total of 60 people have been introduced to cycling through the programme and fears dismissed about the black art of cycling clubs.… Read more

Road Races and Leisure Events this Weekend

There are three road races on this coming weekend and a number of leisure rides. Road Races include the Audi GP on Saturday and the Strabane Ligfford GP and Noel Teggart on Sunday. The Bangor Coastal Challenge for leisure riders is being promoted on Sunday by North Down. Apollo CT are also running a leisure event and details of this can be viewed in a separate story HERE. This Week’s Events

There are lots of events on during this coming week starting off with the Maiden City Criterium in Derry and the Maxwell Memorial Time Trial in Warrenpoint  both taking place this evening. On Thursday night there is another crit taking place  in Ballymoney while at the weekend we have a couple of leisure cycles such as Cycle for Oisin, Saddlerock Fundraiser, Slieve Gullions Leisure Event and the Hills of Donegal Tour as well as road racing with the Bobby Crilly Classic on Saturday and the John Mulligan Perpetual Trophy on Sunday.… Read more

Coleraine and Antrim Crits and Bangor Coastal All Open for Entry

DSC4042Bann Wheelers Criterium, the Antrim Festival Criterium  and the North Down Bangor Coastal Challenge are now open for pre-entry. Places in all of these events are likely to fill up fast so you would be advised to get your entry in early.

Bann Wheelers Town Centre Crit Coleraine
Bann Wheelers will be promoting their town centre criterium in Coleraine on Thursday 16th June and this is now open for pre-entry. The race itself will start on Church Street go through The Diamond, Queen Street, Millburn Road, Union Street, Brook Street and back into the town centre along Church Street: Circuit. Read more

Loop of the Lough Open for Registration

Loop of the Lough 001I am delighted to bring you news of an exciting new leisure event in the Cycling Ireland calendar promoted by one of Ulster's newest clubs, Aldergrove Cycling Club. As one of my last tasks as Club Development Officer it was my privilege to be involved in helping to form this club and I had several meeting with club officials before they finally decided to join the Cycling Ireland fraternity early in 2016. It is now wonderful to see them ready to undertake the huge commitment of not only organising an exciting leisure event but also taking time out to train new cyclists several times weekly in order that they will be able to participate in this venture either as individuals or as part of a relay ream doing shorter stints.… Read more
