Ballymoney Giro Reliability Trial Sunday 26th

vanThe Ballymoney CC Giro Reliability Trial will be held this Sunday 26th, sign on from 8.30am at Ballymoney Rugby Club. (Showers, changing facilities and secure parking).

There will be two routes - 80 miles and 50 miles. Starting at the first roundabout that the riders of the Giro will encounter on the 10th May as they pass Ballymoney on the A26. Turning towards Portrush and the Antrim coast on the B62. This right hand turn will be known as Biesty's Corner and will feature on the race day with family fun events and Italian culture.… Read more

And So It Begins – Two RT’s This Sunday

The road race season is fast approaching as we get into the seaon of reliability trials. This Sunday sees two of the most popu;at RT's take to the roads in Counties Armagh and Antrim when both Apollo CT and Ballymena CRC promote their events.

For the uninitated Reliability Trials are NOT races. There are tough leisure events designed with racing or long distance sportive riders in mind. The pace is usually high and there is no back up in most cases so riders who puncture must be able to fend for themselves.… Read more

Omagh Wheelers Youth Training Day

On Saturday 16th November, Omagh wheelers cycling club are hosting a youth training event. The training event caters for all cyclists aged between 13-16 years old. Based at youth sport Omagh, the training consists of being assessed on the track before being separated into groups for a structured road session. Experienced cyclists from Omagh wheelers and further field will be on hand to ensure safety for all cyclists. They will also be able to provide help and advice through out the day.

‘Clash of the Titians” Report

The following is an article by Davy Cartmill of West Down Wheelers whose 150 mile cycle ride has helped to raise much needed funds in aid of the Southern Area Hospice Services.

We made the trip to Dublin and back safe and sound. Riding down in the dark, the weather that had been predicted and no sleep were the main concerns. The head wind was coming from the South West but no rain.  The night ride down from Omeath to Dublin was completed in 4:35:49.  After breakfast, ( double egg & bacon mcmuffin and a big mug of coffee), the Garmin computer was set to zero and the homeward race to Bessbrook began. … Read more

Autumn Charity Sportive – Sunday 10th November 2013.

On Sunday Lakeland CC are promoting their Autumn Charity Sportive. Registration is from 9am at the Share Centre in Lisnaskea and the event starts at 10am.There are  two routes on offer - 70 Mile and 30 Mile both leaving from share centre Lisnaskea. Each route will have food stops, marshalled, broom wagon, mechanic van, signposted routes, food on completion and changing/shower facilities after the event.

Long Route food stops - Tempo (Opposite the old Police Station) and Black Lion (as you turn left in Black Lion, heading to Florencecourt)Short Route food stop - Just after the Bridge at 11 miles (Before crossing the Derrylin Road)

Hardy Kids at Youth RT

DSC_0323The weather forecast looked as if it might put the doom on the David McCall Foundations Youth Fun Run but thankfully 25 hardy boys, girls and parents turned the gloomy sky into a bright one.

The David McCall Foundation's aim for events like this is to provide the kids and their families with an opportunity to get to know one another so they will look forward to future days out riding their bikes whatever the weather.

It also shows them that cycling gives the, a chance to meet friends again and this one did the trick as everyone had a good day out even though we had to cut short the distances due to the rain and wind, typically it calmed down 10 minutes after the start.… Read more

Leisure Events this Weekend (Road and Off Road)

There are a number of event son this weekend to suit both the leisure and off road cyclists. For those of you who prefer a rugged off road trail why not head for Tir Chonaill GAP's Halloween Howl in Glenties.

This is the second year of this event and promises to be even better than last year. With prizes for the best fancy dress and lovely countryside to cycel what more could you want.

Riders Rise to Cody’s Challenge

aOver two hundred and fifty riders turned up at Richhill today to take part in the annual Cody's Challenge in aid of Children's Heartbeat Trust.

Organised by Stephen and Judith Gallagher, supported by Dig Deep Coaching and Promoted by Steady CC this event raises much needed funds for this charity.

Members of Steady CC were out in force today to ensure that every corner was marshalled and that the two routes of fifty and seventy miles were well marked. Goody bags were presented to all the participants.… Read more

Events This Weekend – Leisure and CycloCross

2Ride with Fondriest - Saturday 19th  October
On Saturday morning there is a chance to have ride out with Maurizio Fondriest starting at So Cycle,  72 Main Street, Augher at 9.30am. The cycle will be going from the shop in Augher to Lusty Beg and Maurizio Fondriest will be joining the cycle. He is coming over to visit to So Cycle since the shop supplies a full range of Fondriest bikes.

Riders can stay over at Lusty Beg. There will be accommodation available in Lusty Beg so check out So Cycle on Facebook for more details.

Sunday 13 October 2013 - Round 2 - Ulster Cyclo-Cross Series - Lady Dixon Park, Belfast
On Sunday Phoenix cc host the second round of the Ulster CX series in Lady Dixon Park.
