Ciclisport, Tour of the Mournes and three Leisure Events Open for Entry

The Cicli Sport GP promoted by East Tyrone takes place on Saturday  29th March. Entries for the three main races of the day opens today at 7,00pm. Riders wishing to take part are advised to enter early as these events fill up very quickly.

On the day East Tyrone wil lbe promoting three races for Senior riders, an event for Women and Masters 50+) and Youth Races for U16 and U14 riders.

A - RACE (A1, A2 Cats) 6 laps (limited to 80 riders)

B - RACE (A3 Cat) 5 laps (limited to 75 riders)

C - RACE (A4 Cat) 4 laps (limited to 80 riders)

Weekend Road Events

This weekend sees two road races, a youth event and a Reliabiliy Trial take place. The full details are as follows.
Spires GP Saturday 1st March 2014
On Saturday the 1st of March, Spires CC (Magherafelt) will be holding their second annual Grand Prix road race with new race head quarters based in the Ballyronan Marina Centre.

The event will feature two separate races on the Ballyronan/ ‘three road ends’/ Loup circuit.

The event has already attracted a strong field including the top club riders from around the Provence with riders from Carn Wheelers, East Antrim Audi and East Tyrone CC all taking part.… Read more

Errigal Youth Event and Emyvale Reliability Trial

errErriagal CC has decided to run this series in order that their youth cyclists would have a number of races in Ulster to attend races within easy travelling distance and to cut down on the necessity to travel great distance in order to get racing experience.

The club would welcome young riders from other parts of the country to come along and take part.

We would encourage other Ulster clubs to follow Errigal's example and promote youth racing. It is particularly beneficial when clubs promote stand alone youth events.… Read more

Omagh’s Valentine’s Run a Monumental Success

aOn Sunday 16th February, Omagh Wheelers cycling club held their annual reliability trial along side a Valentine’s leisure cycle at Youthsport Omagh.

The reliability trial consisted of either a 50 or 70 mile route choice over demanding terrain which required a good level of fitness.

The valentine’s cycle was held in a similar fashion in that there was a choice of either a 30 or 50 mile cycle. The valentine run was aimed at all cyclists with varying fitness levels. Both events were carefully controlled by experienced members of Omagh Wheelers to make sure no individual were left by themselves.… Read more

The Decathlon-B'twin  Classic Tour of Ards 2014 Open for Entry
The Decathlon-B'twin  Classic Tour of Ards 2014  takes place on Saturday 22 March 11am. There will be a  rolling start from St Patrick’s hall behind the chapel (North Street )in Newtownards.

Sign will be open from 9.30 am till 10.45am. Due to the added sponsorship of Decathlon Belfast Ards CC will have a prize fund of £750 with the winner taking home £175 .This will attract a lot of good riders, and it is a good race to prepare for the Des Hanlon  the day after.… Read more

Tour of Down Saturday 15th February

This Saturday West Down Wheelers will be promoting their annual Tour of Down which has become very popular in the last few year's. Part of this could be due to the hardworking Barbara's and their catering committee who put on such a good spread of food after the event.

This year the club will promote the charity run in aid of the Meningitis Research Foundation. The Tour of Down has two route options - the longer route will cover 65 mile and is generally a reliability type run with an average speed of approx 18mph.… Read more

Lots of Reliability Trials this Weekend Including Youth RT

Maryland reliability Sunday February  16th 2014
Maryland Wheeler’s annual reliability trial takes place around south Down Sunday 16h February. This year, the trial will again start and finish at the Lisburn Square car park adjacent to the new bus station. Toilets are available in the bus station.

  • Sign-on opens at 8.30am and closes at 9.20am
  • As it is a reliability trial riders should note that it is their responsibility to ensure that the condition of their bicycle, and themselves, is sufficient for them to complete the distance.

Dine or Ride With Sean Kelly This Weekend

Preparations have been made and the finishing touches are being put in place for what will be a gala night for cycling fans in the region. Sean 'king' Kelly is guest star at Emyvale Cycling Club's annual dinner dance this Saturday night in the Four Seasons Hotel Monaghan.

Tickets are still available but are selling fast and anyone who is considering going would need to contact a club member or call into Francie Mc Quaid Tyres Monaghan or George's Cyclo Sport shop in Emyvale. The event is open not only to cyclists but anyone who wishes to avail of a very good deal of having a sumptuous four course meal including steak with quality music, dancing, an international sport star and many other surprises on the night!… Read more

Upcoming Reliability Trials

There are two Reliability Trials on this coming Sunday with East Antrim Audi taking riders up the coast while Island Wheelers stay closer to Lough Neagh. Full details are given below.

East Antrim RT Sunday 2nd February
On Sunday 2rd February East Antrim Audi CC  will be holding its annual Reliability Trial.

The event sign on will be at Carrickfergus Castle car park and will be open from 9am. The sign on fee will be £5 and there will be a food stop.

Registration Open for On the Rivet

Registration is now open for a new charity leisure cycle on the 30th March. On the Rivet. is an event celebrating John Mulligan brother of well known cyclists Paul and Julie Mulligan.

Sean Kelly will also be at the event to lend his support to the family.Registration takes place in the Village Inn in Killyclogher on Thurs 23rd/Fri 24th and Thurs 30th Jan from 8.00pm. Registration fee is £50 which includes a jacket. Sign on will also be available in Caldwell Cycles in Omagh.
