Congratulations to Caroline Ryan
Caroline Ryan put in a superb performance today in Australia in the World Track Championships. She took a bronze medal in the Women's Points race.
Caroline rode very aggressively during the 100 lap 25km race. By gaining a lap on the field with three other riders she put herself in a good position to secure a high overall finish. Ryan then continued to ride strongly and by scoring some sprints points thus helping to secure the podium finish.
Caroline is a former Irish National Champion in rowing and competed at International level including the World Rowing Championships and became the first Irish woman to win at Henley Royal Regatta when she won the Princess Royal Challenge Cup in 2008.… Read more
Good Fun at First Ulster Track School
Saturday 11th February saw the inaugural Cycling Ulster Track `School` take place in Newtownards; home town of Ireland’s current top Track rider and Olympic hopeful, Martyn Irvine.
This was a classroom based day, and a departure from the normal track training sessions held at Orangefield.
14 invited riders comprising Youths and Juniors attended what was an informative and fun day aimed at educating young riders in various aspects of Track cycling.
National Development Track Coach Brian Cardy delivered the bulk of the session, assisted by Nicola Oldham and Anthony Mitchell along with Coach Tutor Gary McKeegan who gave an extremely useful talk on the role of a Coach.… Read more
Walsh and Meehan Take Bronze in Tandem Sprint
The Irish spirit really shined through on todays last day of the 2012 UCI Paracycling Track World Championships in Carson L.A. In this morning’s Sprint qualification round Irish Pursuit World Champions set a new Irish Record of 12.259 to leave them in 4th place and secured the last available place in this afternoon’s Match Sprint finals.
Male tandem pairing of Andrew Fitzgerald and Con Collis put in a good performance to record a time of 11.631 which left them in 17th place.
The Irish Team Sprint squad of Colin Lynch, Enda Smyth and Cathal Miller finished just outside the top 10 taking 11th place in a New Irish Record time of 56.840.… Read more
Third Rainbow Jersey for Ireland
Day 2 of the 2012 Paracycling Track World Championships in Carson L.A. saw the Irish Paracycling squad secure yet another Rainbow Jersey for Ireland. Colin Lynch followed up on the success of the 3km Female Tandem Pursuit World Champions Catherine Walsh and her Pilot Francine Meehan yesterday by finishing in first place in this morning’s qualifications and then riding a terrific Final race to set a new Irish Record of 3:51.640 when beating the Chinese World Record Holder by six seconds in a great ride off for the Gold medal.… Read more
Irish Team Announced for Final World Cup Event
The Irish Cycling Team has been announced for the third and final World Cup event of the 2011-12 season. The London Olympic Velodrome is the venue for this final round, which is being used as a test event for the Olympic Games in August.
Martyn Irvine heads the team, with his sights set on securing more valuable points for Olympic Qualification. Irvine has been performing consistently this season, with a top five result in the Omnium at the last round in Beijing. The Omnium is a new event in the Olympics, and involves cyclists competing in 6 events with points awarded according to their finish position in each event.… Read more
Brilliant Start by Irish Paracycling Squad
The 2012 Paracycling Track World Championships got off to the best possible start for the Irish Team this morning at the Home Depot Velodrome in Carson L.A. In the 3km Female Tandem Pursuit Qualifiers Catherine Walsh and her Pilot Francine Meehan set a new Irish Record of 3:37.392 to finish in first place and guarantee a ride off for the Gold Medal in the afternoon’s finals.
Irish tandem newcomers Katie-George Dunlevy and Pilot Sandra Fitzgerald showed that they will be future contenders when setting a PB time of 3:48.767 to give them an excellent 7th place finish in the qualifiers.… Read more
Rainbow Jerseys for Paracycling Squad
In an unbelievable result Fran Meehan and Catherine Walsh became the first ever Irish Paracycling Track World Champions. The rainbow jersey will come home to Ireland courtesy of a hard working pair and their excellent back up team.
As if that was not enough Damian Shaw piloting James Brown won winning Ireland's first ever men's Silver medal. We all remember Damian’s excellent performance in the 2011 Rás Dhun nan Gall where he dominated the race. It is great to see him also supporting Ireland’s paracycling squad.… Read more

Ulster Riders on Irish Paracycling Track World Championship Squad
Cycling Ulster are delighted to see Andy Fitzgerald on the Irish Paracycling Squad for the Track World Championships. Brian Nugent and Gerry Beggs from Ulster will also be accompanying the squad. Track Training Begins Sunday
The Winter Track programme gets underway at Orangefield on Sunday with an allcomers session from 11am-1pm. This is an ideal opportunity to get track accreditation and improve your skills. It is also a great way to train in a safe, off road environment.
For those Youth riders who are hoping to be selected for the UK School Games in May this is a must as attendance at track training is part of the criteria for selection.
