Irvine wins Points Race in First World Cup of the 2014 Season

martyn_irvine-1Scratch World Champion, Martyn Irvine has won the Points Race at the World Cup in Manchester. Irvine qualified for the Final earlier today, and conserved his energy for the first half of the stage, before storming to victory with a 3 point lead over second placed Lasse Norman Hansen. Italy’s Elia Viviani (ITA) took the Bronze.

The 120 Points Race is an event where riders start in a bunch, and sprint for intervals throughout the race. With just over 30 laps to go Irvine made his move, and took the remainder of the points, with the final verdict decided on the line.… Read more


Irish Riders for Rd 1 World Cup Series Manchester

This weekend sees Manchester Velodrome play host to Round One of the World Cup Series. This series is of vital importance to those countries wishing to amass points which will go towards qualifying their country for the World Championships.

Ireland’s top track cyclists will compete in the first round of the 2014 World Cup season in Manchester this weekend. World Track Champion, Martyn Irvine will be showing off his World Champion stripes in the Scratch Race, with Caroline Ryan and Eoin Mullen also competing.

Cycling Ireland AGM this Saturday + Records Approved

The Cycling Ireland Annual General Meeting will take place on 26th October 2013, at 11am, at the Four Seasons Hotel, Monaghan Town. Delegates are requested to arrive prior to 1045 in order to facilitate a timely start to the AGM. Since it is Ulster's turn to host the AGM we would encourage clubs to send representatives to this meeting.

There wil be an election to select the new President of Cycling Ireland as out-going President Rory Wyley has decided not to stand for re-election, The current nominees for the position are Denis Toomey and Ciaran McKenna.… Read more


Irvine Medals in Olympic Omnium at European Championships

1Martyn Irvine has won a Bronze Medal in the Omnium at the 2013 Track Cycling European Championship in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands today. This is the first medal for Irvine in the Omnium, which is an Olympic discipline.

Irvine is the reigning World Champion in the Scratch Race, and this season is turning his focus to the Omnium, which is comprised of six separate events, with the winner being the top placed rider across all races. Gold went to Russia’s Viktor Manakov, with Dutchman Tim Veldt taking Silver on home ground.… Read more

Strong Irish Team Named for European Championships

This weekend Apeldoorn hosts the 2013 Track Cycling European Championships, where Ireland has entered a strong three person team. The team includes Scratch Race World Champion Martyn Irvine, whose focus will be on the Omnium event, and the Points Race. Caroline Ryan and Eoin Mullen complete the team, which will be competing for three days on the Dutch track.

Irvine and Ryan begin their competition with the Points Race on Friday evening, followed by the two day Omnium event. The Omnium is an event whereby the riders are allocated points for their finishing position in six events, with the winner being the person with the fewest points.… Read more


Commonwealth Games Nomination Update

As we approach the end of the summer it has been very encouraging to see that we already have more riders who have met the nomination standard than we have places available for the games. From a manager's point of view this is an excellent position to be in as competition for places will be extremely high meaning we will go to Glasgow with a very strong squad.

First Tickets for Cycling at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games Available.


The first phase of tickets for the cycling events at the 2014 CWG in Glasgow are being released.  To order tickets you must send the completed ticketing request form and a cheque made payable to NICGC to the NI cycling team manager Ryan Connor(address below) no later than this Friday, 19th July.  Please find below links to the ticket request form, cycling schedule at the games and pricing guides for the opening and closing ceremonies and the track and MTB events.

Reminder Track Training Tonight
Track training will continue tonight at Orangefield track in Belfast and it looks as if the weather will be kind to the riders showing up. Whether or not the same could be said of your tutors for the night is debatable as it is likely that Anthony Mitchell and Niclola Oldham will put you through your paces.

Seriously though the track at Orangefield is a great off road facility and makes a pleasant change from weaving your way through traffic on weekday training spin.… Read more


Report on Neenan Travel 2020 Training Day

Jenny looking 26th May 13While Sunday saw the Stars of the present strutting their stuff in Skerries.  The Stars of the future were being put through their paces in Brittas and Sundrive Velodrome.

Sunday 26th of May was the third training camp this year for the Neenan Travel Talent Team and the Junior Girls.

In glorious sunshine for once the girls gathered from all corners of the country to participate in what was to be a full on day of Training and learning.

The day was focused on bringing the girls training to a new level as many of the girls will be making the jump from Youth to Junior next year. … Read more

Road Race and Track Events

Track Training Thursday 16th May
Tomorrow night, Thursday 16th May track sessions will begin again at Orangefield. Should the weather be detrimental to track training alternative training exercises will be available so come along and try out this exciting discipline.

Rás Loughgiel Friday 17th and Saturday 8th May
Duffin Transport Racing will promote their very popular two day stage race for A4 riders starting this Friday night. The event was pre-entry and is now full.

On Saturday a Race for A3 riders only will also be promoted on the Loughgiel  Road Circuit and will include the 12% Reservoir Road climb.… Read more
