Crash in Omnium Forces Irvine Out of First World Cup of the Season
Martyn Irvine suffered a blow in last night's opening event in the Men's Omnium when a six bike pile up in the Scratch Race forced the World Champion out of the event with a broken collar bone. Competing in the UCI Track Cycling World Cup in Guadalajara, Mexico, the Irish man was racing in the closing laps of the scratch race when the crash forced three riders out of the competition. With this being the first World Cup of the season, and the second qualifying event for the 2016 Olympic Games, this forced withdrawal denies Irvine valuable qualifying points for Rio.… Read more
Track Commissaire Course
The National Track Commission has arranged for a training course for potential Track Commissaires.
The dates for the course are 6th and 7th December. The times for the course are: from 10 am on the Saturday until 5 pm and 10 am on the Sunday until 4am. At the end of the course there will be a one hour written exam.
The venue is the Pavilion at Sundrive Velodrome.
The course will be run only if there are sufficient candidates so please register early if you are interested.… Read more
National Records Approved
The Board of Cycling Ireland is pleased to announce a number of new records which have been recently approved. For Ulster interest John Madden (Dig Deep Inspired), Mark Downey (Nicholas Roche Performance Team) and Marcus Christie (An Post) broke a number of Time Trial records.
On the track Declan Mulholland of Clann Eireann broke the 4 Kms S/S record as part of Team Ireland along with Sean Grimes, Mark Downey and Fintan Ryan.

Ulster Girls Selected for Hoy Future Stars
Shenna McKiverigan of Banbridge CC and Ciara Doogan of Errigal CC received fantastic news last week when they were selected to take part in the Hoy Future Stars Revolution Series. Both girls have been placed on the Sky team for the series.
This is a fantastic opportunity for both of them. Unfortunately for Ciara the series takes place right in the middle of her exams and sensibly she has decided not to take up the offer, deciding that her education must take precedence, She is however, extremely proud to have been selected.… Read more
Youth Track Trip
The Irish and Ulster Youth Academy are planning to take a group of U13 to U15 riders to the track at Newport from 2nd to the 4th November 2014.
The cost will £100 which includes all transport, meals, accomodation, track coach and bikes etc.

Ulster Track Riders Compete Against the Best in Britain
A seven-strong Ulster Youth track squad took centre stage last week at the Sainsbury`s School Games in Manchester where they competed at the world famous Manchester Velodrome as part of the three-day multi-sport event.
The squad comprised Shenna McKiverigan (Banbridge CC), Ciara Doogan (Errigal CC), Molly McLarnon (North Down CC), Xeno Young (unattached), Marc Heaney (CarnbWheelers), Conor McLoughlin (Newry Wheelers) and Harvey Barnes (East Tyrone CC) and the team was managed by Nicola McKiverigan and Gary McKeegan.
Thirteen UK regions made up the competition, with the added international flair of Brazil competing as a guest nation. … Read more

The Ulster Youth Track Squad will be flying out to Manchester this weekend to take part in the 2014 Sainsbury`s UK School Games. Whilst the National Championships are the platform for Youth riders to shine as individuals, in Track racing the annual Youth Inter-Provincial championship is an opportunity for Youth Track riders to compete together as a team representing their Province in competition for this prestigious title, which since 2010 has also included the winning Province lifting the impressive Sean MacAoghain memorial trophy.… Read more
Silver Medal for Knight at UEC European Track Cycling Championships
Ireland's Josie Knight has won a Silver Medal in the Junior Women's Individual Pursuit at the UEC European Track Championships U23/Junior in Anadia, Portugal. Knight earlier qualified for the final as the fastest qualifier posting 2.29.467 for the 2km race against the clock, guaranteeing her a medal in the gold medal ride off against Russia's Daria Egorova, who had qualified a close second. In the final the Russian started fast, maintaining her lead to take the European Title. Knight won the silver medal, which is an incredible achievement in her first major track championship.… Read more
Ulster dominant in Youth National Track Championships
Ulster`s Youth Track Cyclists dominated the weekend`s National Track Championships in Dublin, coming away with a record 13 Gold medals from a possible 18, and a medal haul of 31 out of a possible 54. Riders from all corners of Ulster; Donegal, Bangor, Guilford, Newry and Maghera made up the 17-strong Ulster contingent who travelled to the Sun Drive track in Dublin for Saturday's event which comprised Sprint, Time Trial and Scratch events.… Read more
