Ulster Do Well in Duane Delaney Track GP

aAfter strong winds postponed the Track season opener last week it was finally underway yesterday with 75 riders from all over Ireland entered to give it their all at the Velodrome in Dublin. The event was a Omnium event with 3 "sprint" events and a tough 20 scratch race to separate the men from the boys.

Six Ulster riders braved the early start and headed down to Dublin for the season opener and what a day it was for them.

The heavy rain forecasted earlier on in the week was nowhere to be seen and the sun was out for much of the day.… Read more

2016 Ulster Championships Now Open for Application

While it might seem very early the Executive of Cycling Ulster would like to hear from any clubs interested in promoting any of our Ulster Championships in 2016. We have a meeting in June and would like to be able to approve the events at that meeting in order to include them in 2016 calendar when it opens in September. This will allow the calendar co-ordinator to close off certain dates and allow club promoters to see when the Championships are on to avoid clashes.

With the growth of cycling and the increase in the number of clubs it is foreseen that 2016 will have  a very full calendar of events and clashes will be inevitable.… Read more

Round 3 was on the first weekend of the New Year, back in Manchester. For the Hoy Future Stars event we had to compete in a 20 lap scratch and point race but this time instead of the 6 lap dash they decided to add in a 60 lap Madison race.

We travelled over on the Thursday night ferry and arriving on the Friday. We went to the National Cycling Centre to find out if I could get some track time to practice the Madison slings.… Read more

Great Night’s Craic at Ulster Awards Evening

groupAlmost 160 people showed up for the Ulster Awards evening which was held in the White River Hotel in Toome on Saturday night. If the National CX Championships were not taking place the following day this number would have been much greater as we received many apologies.

It is very heart-warming for both the Cycling Ulster Executive and for the promoters of our championships to see how people value these championships and are proud to receive an Ulster medal. It is especially good that so many of our young riders came along to receive their awards.… Read more

Shenna Takes to the Boards in Manchester

aRound two of the revolution took place on the 22nd November in the Manchester national cycling centre, ‘The home of British cycling’.

After a long journey we arrived early in Manchester with a lot of time to kill as I wasn’t on till the evening session. I decided to sign on early and was given my riders pass to go in and out of the track centre when I wanted. As I was signing on Laura Trott, Joanna Rowsell and the USN team from Wales arrived; it seemed so surreal that they were cueing behind me to sign on the same piece of paper as me!… Read more

Cycling Ulster Volunteer Positions Open

Cycling Ulster is currently seeking to recruit volunteers to help out at various events, disciplines and commissions.

Road Commission
We are particularly in need of  people who would be interested in becoming part of the Road Commission. The Road Commission traditionally looks after road racing and time trialling  with particular reference to Junior, U 23 and Elite. The Road Commission will also act in an advisory position for women and youth in matters of road racing.

As the remit of the Road Commission is quite broad we need to build up a strong volunteer force. … Read more
