Latest Track News

The Madigan Pro-Bike Centre Ulster Track League wound up on Tuesday night with the final round of racing at Orangefield. The drop in evening light makes it impractical to continue racing in to September, however Tuesday evening was also the last opportunity for those riders competing in this weekend’s National Track Championships to put some finishing touches to their preparations.

A decision was also taken by the Track Commission this week not to enter a team for this year’s UK Inter-Regional Track Championships at Newport later in the month.… Read more

Junior Track Championships

The National Track Championships at Orangefield yesterday produced some great racing, with the country’s top Juniors vying for four titles and twelve medals over a packed afternoons schedule. As it turned out, the major spoils were shared among three riders, with Eoin Mullen and Darragh Ziadan taking a brace of titles each, and Matthew Adair showing his all round consistency in taking Silver in all four events.

The racing got underway with the Sprint qualification, which saw no surprises with Eoin Mullen, a track sprint pupil at the UCI facility in Aigle, the only rider to break in to the 12 second barrier – recording an impressive 12.72 ahead of Matt Adair who posted 13.54.… Read more

Junior Track Championships

Tomorrow (Saturday) sees the National Junior Track Championships take place at the Tommy Givan Memorial Track at Orangefield in Belfast.
A full programme of Championship events is on the cards, to include Sprint, Scratch, Kilo TT and 3km Pursuit.
The race programme gets underway at Noon with the Flying 200metre Sprint Qualification event. … Read more

Ulster Dominate Inter-Provincial Youth Series

Ulster’s youth track riders dominated the opening round of the 2011 national Inter-Provincial Track series, when they used `home ground` advantage at Orangefield to its full effect to lead the series by a comfortable 61 points to 38 over Leinster. With both teams slightly down on numbers, Leinsterproved strongest in the younger categories whilst Ulster dominated both the Under 14 and Under 16 ranks.

Banbridge girl Niamh McKiverigan was our only representative in the Under 10 events, and recorded a personal best time over 100metres to win the event, and also went on to take second in both the Sprint and Scratch races, despite being outnumbered by 3 Leinster riders.… Read more

Youth Inter-Provincial Track Racing

The Ulster Track Commission has named its squad for tomorrow`s opening round of the 2011 Inter-Provincial series, which will take place on `home` ground at Orangefield. Last year Ulster tied for overall honours with Leinster, however with the opening event on home territory, Ulster are hoping to start the series off on a winning note.

Duane Delaney Memorial Track Meeting. Sundrive, Dublin – Report

A 7 rider Ulster Track Squad travelled to Dublin on Saturday to contest the first Track Meeting of the season, the Ravens CC promoted Duane Delaney Memorial Omnium. The Cycling Ulster team was managed by Banbridge woman Nicola Oldham and was headed by 2010 event winner Terry Mackin (Banbridge CC) and included newcomer Peter Bennett (Unattached), a convert from rugby and Jonny Beers (East Antrim /Audi), Philip Bremner (Unattached), David Neill (Phoenix CC), Daniel Stewart (Ards CC) and sole woman rider Rachel Mitchell (Eurocycles)

The Omnium comprises 5 Races; Flying 200m TT, Kilometre Dash, Scratch Race, Points Race and Standing Start 500m TT.… Read more

Women’s Track Night Resounding Success

On Friday night a special women's only track training night was held at Orangefield and it proved to be a huge success. With many new faces not only to to the track but to cycling, the scene was set for a great night. With coaches and track regulars, Anthony Mitchell, Brian Cardy, Nicola Oldham, Rachel Mitchell and Terry Mackin on hand there was plenty of expert advice for the newcomers.

Some began by using their road bikes to get a feel of the track while others learned how to ride a fixed wheel on the infield but it was not long before all had the confidence to begin training on the track itself.… Read more
