Ulster XC Series Rd 1 Sunday 7th April

The first round of the very popular Ulster XC MTB Series kicks off this Sunday at Ballykelly Forest between Limavady and Derry. The event is being hosted by Strabane Lifford and promises to be an excting event. Pre-registration is now open for the event and this will help the organisers estimate the likely number of riders on the day and also make the signing on process faster. For senior riders it will be cheaper to pre-register than sign up on the day.

Off Road Training Days

Cycling Ulster's Off-road Commission are putting on 3 training days to improve off-road skills for 3 targeted groups - namely Youth, Women and Male beginners.

For these sessions the training is aimed at youth riders aged 14 or under, women at any skill level, and beginner males who are looking to get into off-road racing.
These sessions are aimed at riders who can confidently ride their bikes but who are looking to improve their off-road skills.

Equipment required

Mad March Hare 2013 Event Report

Well finally, after a long number of months’ hard work, through adverse weather, and with only a small number of casualties, (our trail Foreman Hugh plus one more worker were hit with “Man Flu”), the Mountain Bike Trail was finished and our inaugural Mountain Biking event “The Mad March Hare” took place on Sunday, 3 March.

The 60 strong group of riders, began the run by descending the steps at the top of the town and then continuing on the road for a short distance to begin the brutal ascent (which has now been named HELL) to the top of the trail.  Read more

Leisure Events – Road and Off Road- This Weekend

Cyclists are spoilt for choice this weekend with road racing and off road competititive events on both Saturday and Sunday and now two leisure events on Sunday 3rd March promoted by two of our newer clubs, Killeavy CC and Tir Chonaill GAP.

Killeavy will promote a leisure cycle for charity in aid of Downs Syndrome while Tir Chonaill GAP have a a fantastic Off road Leisure cycle on offer.

Off Road Competition this Weekend

Saturday 2nd March 2013 - Lakeland CC will promote Round 4 of their Youth MTB Series. The venue this time will be Necarne Estate, Irvinestown. The series is organised to attract young people from the area into cycling and provide challenges for them. However the series is open to anyone who wants to come along and have a go. Lakeland CC are also catering for adults and there will be a full programme of events on for more senior members as well.

Lakeland intend to run a full programme of events to cater for Under 8s, 10s, 12s, 14s, 16s, Juniors and Senior riders.… Read more

The Mad March Hare Mountain Bike Sunday 3rd March

Tir Chonaill Gap Cycling Club, which encompasses the Glenties, Ardara, Portnoo and surrounding areas, is pleased to announce that on 3 March it will be holding its first ever mountain bike event.The official name of this event has been decided as the Mad March Hare. Thie is not a race but an off toad leisure cycle over some beautiful terrain.

The start of this event should create a bit of a stir as the participants have to ride down the steps beside the Garda station in Glenties.… Read more

XMTB/McConvey Cycles Spring League Off to a Flying Start

2A great start to the off road season took place in Ormeau Park, Belfast on Sunday, when XMTB/McConvey Cycles promoted their Spring Series as a season opener.

Designed as a fun series and to attract young people to the sport, the first round certainly lived up to expectations as there were big numbers for all the Youth events right down to Under 6.

Ormeau Park is an ideal venue for the series and the promoting club are very grateful to Belfast City Council for their continued involvement in the promotion of such events.… Read more

Fun and Games at Off Road Training

5Over twenty young people turned up for the Off Road training day organised by Cycling Ulster's Off Road Officer , Martin Grimley. Ably assisted by Ulster's Youth Commission Officer, Colin Hughes, the young riders were put through their paces in Ormeau Park.
With XMTB/McConvey Cycles Spring Series starting the following day, this training session was designed to teach the riders some new skills and hone previously acquired skills.

The day consisted of a mixture of hard surface skills in the carpark where cornering, riding through a slalom and group starts were all practised under the watchful eye of the coaches and off road riding.… Read more

Xmtb Spring Series + Youth training day

XMTB McConvey Cycles is hosting a series of 3 mountain bike races aimed primarily at the youth riders from the Under 8s up to the Under 16s starting on Sunday 17 February 2013. The over 16's are not being left out as the club will have a Senior "fun" race for all levels of competitive cyclists from the Introductory "Sports" rider to the top end Elite riders. Off-road news – Youth development squad, Winter & Spring MTB series

With the Cyclo-cross season over the off-road community are looking forward to the other off-road disciplines. Cycling Ireland's new youth development officer Jon Hynes will be in Tollymore Outdoor Centre this Sunday (27 January 2013) to meet potential riders for the Irish Development Squad. Jon will be joined by Cycling Ulster's off-road development officer Lance McCarthy who will also be scouting for riders for the Cycling Ulster Development Squad therefore there will be lots of places up for grabs for riders aged 12-16 (Cycling Ireland) and 12-18 (Cycling Ulster).… Read more
