Round 2 Ulster XC Series This Sunday

Pre-entry has opened for Round 2 of the Ulster XC series which is also Round 4 of the NPS cross-country series which will be held at Lady Dixon Park in Belfast on Sunday 27 May 2012.

Over the past three years, Lady Dixon has quickly gained a reputation as a great XC race venue. The course, fast and flowing in nature, has produced some close, intense racing which will, no doubt, be better again this year with the new race categories. The Club are looking forward to welcoming folks that have previously raced the course and hopefully some new faces as well.… Read more

Thrills for Off Road Riders this Weekend

On Sunday 6th May there is an exciting event on for those keen on off road events.

MadMac's 6 Hour is a MTB XC endurance event. It will be the first such event of its kind in Ulster and possibly Ireland, and looks set to be a fantastic spectacle and challenge.

MadMac’s 6 Hour XC is a fast flowing, adrenaline pumping race with unforgiving climbs and nerve-racking descents. Designed for riders of all abilities, test your speed and endurance on this action-filled course. Compete in pairs or as a soloist to complete as many laps as possible of the XC course within the six hour time limit.… Read more

Ulster Off-Road News

Ulster Cross-Country Mountain Bike Series - Round 1
This will take place on Sunday 15 April 2012 at Ballykelly Forest, Limavady (subject to Forestry approval) and will be hosted by Strabane/Lifford CC.   The course was last used back in 2000. There are 12 race categories in total for the Under 8s up to seniors.  Sign on opens at 9.30am.

Youth races start at 11.00 am, U14, U16 and some senior races start at 12:00. Main senior races start at 2.00pm. The senior course is around 3 miles in length.… Read more

Events this Weekend

Errigal CC Relibility Trial
This Sunday, 4th March, Errigal Cycling Club will host their first reliability trial. The event will commence at Letterkenny Community Centre, Pearse Rd., Letterkenny with sign on from 9.15am, Entry €10, Anyone hoping to attend must have in their possession their 2012 Cycling Ireland License – (No license - No start) Groups will be rolling out at 10am sharp, Groups to suit all capabilities from A1/A2/A3/A4 right down to leisure cyclists.

The event itself will have two distances 133km and 70km.… Read more

XMTB Spring Series Sunday 19th

Xmtb McConvey cycles launch their spring series of MTB races at Ormeau Park, Belfast starting on Sunday 19 February 2012.  The series will run for 3 Sundays in a row with a prize giving ceremony after the final race which will include spot prizes as well as the main prize which is a new Specialized mountain bike courtesy of McConvey Cycles.  The series is a great introduction to off-road racing as the course is not too long or too techincal.  The series is especially geared towards the youth categories and the number of entries year on year has been growing.   … Read more

Talent Team 2020 Finding Their Feet – Off Road

Tollymore Outdoor Adventure Centre was the venue for the Female 2020 Talent Team's second training camp. The focus was on Mountain Biking and Tollymore was the perfect venue with its purpose designed Mountain Bike Skills Courses to take this enthusiastic young group.

Set at the foot of the Mourne Mountains, Tollymore is an excellent venue and deserves much praise.  There are a variety of skills courses catering for beginners to elite rider's right next to the centre, which was perfect for this group with such a wide range of skill.… Read more

Successful Ulster MTB Championships held in Craigavon

Craigavon Watersports Centre was the venue for the 2011 Ulster Cross-Country Mountain Bike Championships hosted by Apollo Cycling Team and held on Saturday 3 September 2011. Pre-entry had opened the week before and over 100 riders had registered for the day. In total 123 riders took part on a pleasant day with little wind and just a short shower in the later half of the day.

The organisers were on site from around 7 am setting out the 3 mile course which took in a large part of the pre-built trails around the lakes.… Read more

Great Work by Apollo at Ulster XC Champs

On Saturday 3rd September the Apollo machine got underway for Ulster XC Championships. Weeks of work had gone into the preparation and it certainly paid off as the club promoted a full day of mountain bike races for all categories. With the weather remaining dry for the supporting races in the morning there was a great atmosphere at Craigavon Lakes with family support for all riders evident with the crowds watching the events.

The setting was beautiful although the club did not give the riders much time to enjoy the view as the course was far from easy.… Read more

Ulster MTB XC Championships – 3 September 2011

Apollo Cycling Team are hosting this year's Ulster Cross-Country Mountain Bike Championships on Saturday 3 September 2011 at the Craigavon Watersports Centre. There will be races for the Under 8s up to the Elite men and women. The race categories are based on the UCI categories and those set by Cycling Ireland with the majority of riders competing in age classes.

The venue and course layout offer interest to riders of all skill levels as the 3 mile course is a mix of single track, open grass land (plus hill!) and open trails.… Read more
