Cycling Ulster Youth Riders Experience Olympic Course
Seven Cycling Ulster young members headed off to the Olympic MTB Venue recently. These were Shenna McKiverigan, Shannon Buller, Jill Curry , James Curry, Declan Mullholland, Darnell Moore and Ryan Orr. They had the fantastic opportunity to compete at the Olympic MTB venue, Hadleigh Farm.
They were competing in the UK interregional MTB Championships.
The competition saw the top young riders from across the UK, all under the age of 16, come together to compete for their regions over three days. Young aspiring riders competed in a skills competition as well as a massed start hill climb, dirt crit eliminator and cross country events.… Read more
Fun Order of the Day at Tolllymore
Fun was certainly the order of the day when the young riders, their families and the volunteers arrived at the Tollymore mountain bike centre today for the David McCall Foundation Youth Day.
Over thirty young people representing many clubs came along for a day's fun and that was what they got.
Glorious sunshine greeted eveyone and the setting was magnificent with the Mourne Mountains, bathed in autumn glory rising above you everywhere you looked.

Ulster Youth Riders for Olympic MTB Park
Seven Ulster youth riders are off this weekend to follow in the wheel tracks of the 2012 Olympians when they take part in the UK Inter-Regional Youth Mountain Bike Championships taking place at the Olympic Mountain Bike park at Hadleigh Farm in Essex.
They will be lining up with the best in Britain to compete over skills and speed events in a 3-day competition to determine the best region in the UK.
Three of the squad have already competed in this type of UK regional championship event, having been to the Sainsbury`s UK School Games in May for a Road and Track event in what was a mini-Olympics, however this weekend British Cycling have organised a stand-alone Mountain Bike event which will see all regions of the UK represented.… Read more
Ulster MTB XC Champions Crowned at Castlewellan
The Ulster MTB XC Championship took place in Castlewellan Forrest yesterday. Roger Aiken (Banbridge CC) took the Elite Men's title ahead of Gareth McKee (Chain Reaction) and Conor Campbell (Newry Wheelers). Claire Oakley (WXC) won the Elite Women's title, with Kathryn Bell (Northern CC) taking silver and Julie Rea (Phoenix CC) the bronze. There were also victories for Andy Godfrey (U/A) in the U23's, Stuart Ballantine (XMTB/McConvey Cycles) in the Juniors, Darragh McCarter (Omagh Whs) in the Experts, Barry Kellet (Dromara) in the Masters, John Bogues (Phoenix) in the Vets and Paul Daly (Island) in the Senior 4's.… Read more

Off-road racing news
Carn Wheelers, who had already organised Round 3 of the Ulster Cross-Country Mountain Bike Series, has been working closing with the Forestry Service to secure Garvagh Forest as the next venue for the series (Round 5). Racing takes place this Sunday 12 August 2012 with the usual full schedule of races for the Under 8s up to the Senior 1 men and women. Sign on from 9:30, youth racing starting at 11:00. Further races at 12:00 and 14:00. Pre-registration closes tonight at 8 pm. Riders are asked to use this facility to help with the administration on the day.… Read more
Youth Camp 2012 – Off-road skills coaching for riders 6-14
Cycling Ulster's Off-road commission is putting on a summer series of off-road skills sessions for Under 14s.
All six sessions will happen on Monday evenings between 7 and 8:30 pm and will be located in Belfast, Lisburn and Craigavon with the first session on Monday 16 July 2012 at Belvoir Activity Centre in Belfast.… Read more
Successful Leisure MTB day in the Sperrins
In June 2011 Harps Cycling Club ran the first of their mountain bike sportives over the Sperrin mountains offering two routes, a 20 km and a 40 km route. It attracted 74 riders who went away with great memories of the area and a promise to return.
On Sunday 17 June 2012 the club ran the event again putting on three routes, 35, 55 and 65 km, adding in more off-road sections and, of course, more climbs. Over 120 riders from as far afield as Dublin arrived at Moneymore Recreation Centre to sign on and take part demonstrating again the appetite for this style of organised leisure mountain biking in Ireland.… Read more

Saturday 16th June 2012 - Maryland Tandem Sportive: On Saturday Maryland Wheelers will promote a tandem only event for Blind and partially sighted cyclists however all tandems are welcome. The venue is the Down Royal Race Course and storage space for bikes has been organised for any bikes which need to be at the location before the 16th June. Bikes can be brought to the Racecourse at 3pm on Thursday 14 and 3pm Friday 15 June - Vicki Moody will be there to let you in.… Read more
