Tough conditions at the British NPS Round 1

The first round of the British NPS Cross-country series took place over the weekend at Sherwood Pines in Nottinghamshire. The aim of the Cycling Ulster MTB XC squad for 2015 is to compete at all five of the British rounds. Selected onto the squad were Matthew Adair (Xmtb McConvey Cycles), James Curry (Banbridge CC) and Sean Bradley (Carn Wheelers). Unfortunately Matthew was unable to attend due to last minute work issues. Jeff Ballantine and Simon Curry took the guys over on the Friday evening on the overnight boat to arrive on Saturday in time for practice.… Read more

McKee in Dominant Form at Rostrevor

The 2015 Ulster Cross-Country (XC) Mountain Bike Series kicked off on Sunday 8 March at one of Ireland's premier mountain bike trail centres, Kilbroney Park beside the village of Rostrevor in County Down. Host club Dromara Cycling Club has been running XC events here since the trail centre opened in 2013. The event headquarters was based in the caravan park with its many hard stand parking bays and amenity block with showers and toilets. The event had to take place at this time of the year as the caravan park was open to the public on the Monday after the event and would remain open until the start of November.… Read more

Events this Weekend

There is lots on offer this weekend to suit all tastes and abilities. With races on Saturday and Sunday, the first of the Ulster XC  Series on Sunday and a couple of leisure events throow oin for good measure riders are spoilt for choice.

Spires GP RR Saturday 7th March
On Saturday the 7th of March, Spires CC will be holding their annual Grand Prix road race on the Ballyronan/ ‘three road ends’/ Loup circuit. The club would like to invite everyone to come along and watch what looks to be a great day's racing.… Read more

Ulster MTB XC series starts this Sunday at Rostrevor

The 2015 Ulster Cross-country Mountain Bike Series starts this Sunday, 8 March, at Kilbroney Park in Rostrevor. Host club Dromara CC has been running an XC race at this location since the new trail centre opened in 2013. The event headquarters will be based in the caravan park located beyond the café. Riders are asked to park in the MTB car park and to follow the instruction from the event stewarts. Sign on opens on Sunday at 9:30. The course will be open for practice on Saturday afternoon.… Read more

Great early season racing at Xmtb’s Spring Series

The Xmtb McConvey Cycles Spring Series is a well-established set of three off-road cycling races which take place just before the start of the main off-road race season. The three races were held at Ormeau Park in Belfast and the club wish to thank Belfast City Council for their continued support. The races have always been aimed at the youth riders with a senior race tagged on at the end to keep the parents and early season racers happy. … Read more

Mad March Hare MTB Postponed

It is with regret that Tir Chonnaill GAP announce that they have had to cancel this weekend's Mad March Hare Mtb event.

The Club held a meeting last night regarding the above event and due  to the bad weather conditions (and the weather forecast ahead) took the decision to cancel the event in the interest of health and saety.

The club propose to run this very popular event in July nad further announcements will be made when dates have been confirmed.

XMTB McConvey Cycles Spring Series Starts This Weekend

XMTB McConvey Cycles are hosting a series of 3 mountain bike races aimed primarily at the youth riders from the Under 8s up to the Under 16s starting on Sunday 15 February 2015 in Belfast's Ormeau Park.  The club wish to thank Belfast City Council for their support and ongoing permission to use the venue.
Please Note: These events are also selection events for the Cycling Ulster MTB Junior and U23 Team which will be competing in the NPS Series in Britain in 2015.Because of the popularity of this league in addition to the normal program, we will be hosting two separate Senior races taking the following format:

Senior A:

The Senior A race is for riders who are experienced in cross country racing and would normally compete in race categories Senior 1, Senior 2 and Senior 3.… Read more

Information Cycling Ulster Championship and Promoters Required

With the road racing season due to start in six weeks Cycling Ulster are calling on clubs to consider promoting one or more of the remaining Ulster Championships. Our championship events are always eagerly looked forward to by riders across disciplines, ages and genders.  Currently there are a few of our major champsionships not in the calendar. These include the Ulster RR, the Ulster Youth Championships, the Hill Climb and the Criterium.

Great Night’s Craic at Ulster Awards Evening

groupAlmost 160 people showed up for the Ulster Awards evening which was held in the White River Hotel in Toome on Saturday night. If the National CX Championships were not taking place the following day this number would have been much greater as we received many apologies.

It is very heart-warming for both the Cycling Ulster Executive and for the promoters of our championships to see how people value these championships and are proud to receive an Ulster medal. It is especially good that so many of our young riders came along to receive their awards.… Read more
