Cycling Ulster Off-road Commission – Youth Coaching Sessions

The Cycling Ulster Off-road Commission plan to run a series of coaching sessions aimed at the U12/U14/U16 age groups. These intermediate level sessions are aimed at existing racers who would like to improve their technical riding skills with the aim of improving their race results. The first two sessions are planned for Saturday 13th June at Davagh trail centre at 9 am and 1 pm. Watson finishes a clear winner at Lady Dixon Park

It was a return to Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park in Belfast for Round 3 of the Ulster Cross-country Mountain Bike Series 2015. Host club Xmtb McConvey Cycles has been running an off-road cycle race in the park since 2009 and has built up a great knowledge of the park and a great relationship with the park wardens. Many thanks to Belfast City Council for continuing to support the event. The run up to race day had seen a mixture of weather with heavy rain some of the days with overcast conditions and fairly mild all week.… Read more

Lots of Enduro, Cross-country and Downhill going on and coming up

The off-road scene has been busy over the last couple of weeks with Round 2 of the Vitus First Tracks series taking place in Bigwood, Warrenpoint on 9/10 May and then the Ulster riders heading over to Wales to compete in the third round of the British XC series. This weekend the Emerald Enduro is taking place in Carrick County Wicklow. This is the second round of the Enduro World Series with a huge gathering of international riders and local riders competing across seven timed stages.… Read more

2016 Ulster Championships Now Open for Application

While it might seem very early the Executive of Cycling Ulster would like to hear from any clubs interested in promoting any of our Ulster Championships in 2016. We have a meeting in June and would like to be able to approve the events at that meeting in order to include them in 2016 calendar when it opens in September. This will allow the calendar co-ordinator to close off certain dates and allow club promoters to see when the Championships are on to avoid clashes.

With the growth of cycling and the increase in the number of clubs it is foreseen that 2016 will have  a very full calendar of events and clashes will be inevitable.… Read more

Snow to sunshine, wild deer to mountain biking, all fun at Colebrooke

Caldwell Cycles's usual venue of Ballykelly Forest was unavailable this year due to tree felling which left event organiser Clive Caldwell the task of finding another venue to host a cross-country mountain bike event. Thankfully Lord Alan Brookeborough of Colebrooke Estate in Brookeborough County Fermanagh was happy to accommodate another race on his estate using more or less the same course as Lakeland CC had back in January of this year. … Read more

Sperrins Outdoor Recreation Forum Open Meeting

The Sperrins Outdoor Recreation Forum and Network will be holding an open network meeting on Tuesday 28th April in Broughderg Community Centre, 123 Broughderg Road, Mountfield, Omagh, County Tyrone BT79 8JN at 7.30pm.

The purpose of the Outdoor Recreation Forum is to provide a mechanism for interested parties to help to make the outdoors more accessible and enjoyable for outdoor recreation, in ways that address social, economic and environmental interests, and with regard to issues of particular local relevance.

At this open meeting the Forum will report on the work that they have undertaken in the past year and highlight some of the developments in outdoor recreation that have been happening in the Sperrins through the work of members of the Forum, Sperrins Gateway Landscape Partnership, the various clubs and governing bodies of sport and local councils.… Read more

What’s On This Weekend

Bann Valley Classic Sunday 12th April
On Sunday 12th April the Bann Valley Classic take place in Clady just outside Portglenone. This event was pre-entry and is now closed. There are two races on offer namely a race for A2/A3 riders and one for A4 riders. Races will take place over an eight mile circuit and all racing will start at 2.00pm sharp. The A race will cover six laps of the course while th eB race will cover five laps.
There will be the usual excellent refreshments after the event.… Read more

Lots on this Weekend for Youth Riders

There is a busy weekend ahead for our Youth riders with  the Omagh Youth League  and the David McCall Youth TT , on Saturday and the North West Youth League on Sunday. For those who prefer off road there is also racing in Fermanagh at the Second round of the Ulster XC Series.

Trail Demons Launched this Week

td4Trail Demons CC is a new club which was launched this month in Craigavon. The club is set up to teach kids how to ride bikes, to get them off the sofa and out in the fresh air. Club members believe that Mountain Bikes are the best way to get kids on bikes but although they do focus on off road they are not exclusively an MTB club nor a club just for kids.

The club encourages the Mums and Dads to get on bikes and with the help of the Craigavon Cycling Project are able to offer the parents bicycles to ride around the trails with their kids and under the supervision of CTC qualified trail leaders.… Read more
