MTB XC National Championships Sunday 17 July 2011 – Killruddery
Team-Worc is proud to host the Irish cross-country championships in the excellent setting of Killruddery demesne. It is back to a super fast and flowy course with the usual mix of fast singletrack, tough climbs, rock gardens and bombholes. The course designers, lead by Robin Seymour, are working hard to improve what has been used in previous races at this venue.
The following race categories will be run which are in keeping with the UCI MTB categories;
Elite Men, Elite Women, Master, Veteran, Junior.
This differs to the current NPS format due to current UCI category requirements, but there will be non-championship support races (see below).… Read more
Sun shone at Dunmore for Round 5 of the Ulster XC Series
Round 5 of the Ulster Cross-Country Mountain Bike Series took place on Saturday 2 July 2011 at Dunmore Mountain located near Spa, Ballynahinch. Dromara Cycling Club was the host of the event and the organisers are very grateful to the Wightman family who own the land for the use of the venue. Dromara CC first used this site in 2007 and have been developing the course over the years. The senior course is approximately 2½ miles long and climbs over both peaks of the mountain covering around 500 feet of climbing on each lap.… Read more
Off-road XC racing news June 2011
News from the off-road cycling side of our sport as we look ahead to the next few cross-country mountain bike events that are happening over the next 3 months. The Ulster XC series has seen some great attendance figures with the number of young riders every increasing. There are plans ongoing for skills days for the Under 14s with more details to follow in a separate article.

Super day at Sperrin MTB Sportive
On Saturday 18 June 2011 Harps Cycling Club hosted a new off-road cycling event, the Sperrin MTB Sportive, which attracted 74 riders from various cycling backgrounds. Headquarters was based in the GAA club in Lissan, Churchtown which has excellent parking, bike wash, showers and function rooms. Sign-on was open between 8 am and 9 am with riders then able to start whenever they were ready. The day started dry with light clouds and warm sunshine peaking through.

Sperrin MTB Sportive on Saturday 18th June
Harps Cycling Club promote the Sperrin MTB Sportive on Saturday 18th June. The event takes place in trails in Slieve Gallion and Davagh Forrest with 20km and 40km routes available. Sign-on is at Lissan GFC, Churchtown, Cookstown at 8am to 9am. Entry fee is £10/€15, showers and refreshments will be available after the finish. Wet day at Magheramorne for the MTB race on 5 June 11
Round 4 of the Ulster Cross Country Mountain Bike Series 2011 took place at Magheramorne Quarry near Larne in County Antrim. This is the fifth year that host club Team Madigan have had access to this site to put on a race and the club is grateful to the landowners Lafarge. Unfortunately this was the first year that the race day was not a scorcher with driving rain since day break having an effect on the turn out as many riders just rolled over and stayed in bed.… Read more
Sunshine at Lady Dixon Park for MTB Race 29 May 2011
Round 3 of the 2011 Ulster Cross-Country Mountain Bike Series took place at the beautiful Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park in south Belfast. This was also Round 5 of the Irish National Points Series (NPS). The park, which is managed by Belfast City Council, has proved to be a popular venue over the last two years and the host club, Xmtb McConvey Cycles are very grateful to the council for supporting the sport. The track was much the same as last year with a few new sections added in and the organisers had had mixed fortunes with the weather in the lead up to the race with the course going from wet and muddy to bone dry.… Read more

Round 4 of the Ulster Cross-Country Mountain Bike Series will take place on Sunday 5th June 2011 at Magheramorne Quarry outside Larne. Host club Team Madigan are pleased to have got use of this excellent venue where some great open racing has been seen over the years.

Round 3 of the Ulster Cross-Country Mountain Bike Series will take place on Sunday 29th May 2011 at Lady Dixon Park in Belfast hosted by Xmtb McConvey cycles. This event also doubles up as round 5 of the Irish Points Series (NPS). Racing for the Under 8s up to seniors. 13 race categories in total. Sign on opens at 09:30 Youth races start at 11 am, U14, U16 and some senior races start at 12. Main senior races start at ...1:30.

Muddy conditions at Tollymore for Round 2 of the Ulster XC MTB Series
The second round of the Ulster Cross-Country Mountain Bike Series 2011 took place at Tollymore Forest Park on Sunday 15 May 2011 hosted by Banbridge Cycling Club. This event was also the fourth of seven rounds of the Irish National Point Series (NPS) which meant a larger attendance of riders from across Ireland with over 200 pre-registered to compete across all categories from the Under 8s to the seniors. The park offers great facilities for day visitors and campers with the event field close to toilet and shower facilities and a tap which allowed for a bike wash, much in use today.… Read more
