Please Read – Clarification of Motions and Proposals at CI AGM

Since posting the story of the proposed grading changes on this site numerous people have emailed, phoned, texted and made comments. This is very encouraging and it is only when members engage in discussion can appropriate changes for the better take place. Therefore I would urge as many club delegates as possible to attend the Cycling Ireland AGM on 3rd November in Clonmel or it is possible that a system will be proposed that no-one wants or agrees with.

However there is some confusion among our readers as to the process at the AGM this year so I felt that additional information may help you make more informed choices or perhaps just encourage you to go along.… Read more

Aiken Shows Who’s Master at Phoenix CX

A massive crowd of riders of all ages descended on Lady Dixon Park on Sunday for the cyclo-cross race promoted by Phoenix CC. The promotion of such events is a new departure for the Belfast based club with a cross race in 2011 their first foray into off road events. The positive comments received following  last year’s event encouraged the club to continue and by all accounts Sunday’s promotion was even better.

A fast flowing course with some technical sections not to mention the aptly nicknamed ‘Catastrophe Corner’ ensured a great day’s outing for riders and spectators alike.… Read more

All Roads Lead to Richill Today

From North, South, East and West all roads converged on Richill today as over four hundred cyclists came to support Stephen and Judith Gallagher's fundraising efforts for the Children's Heartbeat Trust.

The event was Cody's Challenge named in honour of Stephen's son Cody who died just three years ago from a heart related illness. And Cody must have been pleased with the turnout because he ensured that the sun came out to dispel the early morning mist and highlight the autumn gold and brown of the trees.… Read more

No Tour of Ulster for 2013

We have been informed by the Ulster Cycles Promotion Club who normally promote the Tour of Ulster stage race that they will not be doing so for 2013. The UCPC is a small organisation which relies heavily on volunteer support in the promotion of the event.

Following their AGM last week they decided that there was insufficient support to promote the race in a professional manner. They also cited the difficulty of finding civilian motorbike marshalls to help the PSNI outriders as another reason why the event would not be going ahead.… Read more
