Downey Takes Yellow By 3 Seconds

DSC_0166Stage three of the Rás Dhun na nGall kicked off this afternoon with a bang as riders went from the gun. The fast initial pace saw fifteen riders dropped in the first five miles of racing. This was to be the story for the day as riders kept the pressure on.

Riders such as Stephen Harkins of Team Madigan and Mike Millar of Phoenix CC were among the early riders to test the waters but they were pulled back in.

Noble New Leader in Donegal

HillclimbA strong headwind and light drizzle greeted the first of this morning’s riders as they started Stage 2 of Rás Dhun na nGall. The stage, while just under two miles long, is often underrated by riders until they actually see what they are facing. This is no flat stage but rather a tough hill climb up the side of Glengesh.

The wind and cooler conditions this year ensured that almost all times were over  a minute slower than last year with most riders in the nine or ten minute mark.… Read more

The Friday night stage of Ras Dhun na nGall always catches the unaware.

This year was no different with riders  who were expecting a nice easy club race on a Friday night facing high speeds and riders being dropped in the first few miles ot racing.

Bruten in Yellow but Downey Chasing in Donegal

DSC_0108The small heritage town of Ardara hardly knew what hit it this afternoon as car after car bearing top of the range bikes began to descend upon the town. The Nesbitt Arms Hotel became the hub for these cyclists as they signed on for the event most had been looking forward to all year, namely the Rás Dhun na nGall, a stage race specifically for A2 and A3 riders. A great many A4 riders have ridden out of their skins this year in order to line up in this event while others just avoided gaining those final points which would see them ineligible for the race.… Read more

As teams begin to travel towards Ardara today there are two teams which deserve a mention by Cycling Ulster. These are the Cycling Ulster Cycles team of Juniors and the Belgian Project/McCall Foundation team of Juniors and Elites.

Noel Teggart Memorial Races Sunday 9th June
Pre-entry for the Noel Teggart Memorial races, promoted by Banbridge CC on Sunday 9th June,  will open from 18:00hrs this Friday (31/05/13).  Entries will only be accepted via email to race organiser Aaron Wallace ( aarwallace@gmail.com), emails received prior to 18:00 on Friday will not be valid or counted.

It is hoped that entry numbers will support a separate A1*/A1/A2 & A3 race, judgement on this will be taken by the organising committee once entries are submitted.  If numbers are not sufficient to support this a handicapwill be applied for the A3 & A2 groups. … Read more

Reminder Track Training Tonight
Track training will continue tonight at Orangefield track in Belfast and it looks as if the weather will be kind to the riders showing up. Whether or not the same could be said of your tutors for the night is debatable as it is likely that Anthony Mitchell and Niclola Oldham will put you through your paces.

Seriously though the track at Orangefield is a great off road facility and makes a pleasant change from weaving your way through traffic on weekday training spin.… Read more

logo2With cycling becoming ever more popular in the county, it’s now the turn of the Ras Dhun na nGall to take to the roads around Ardara over the bank holiday weekend. Sponsored by the Nesbitt Arms Hotel and the Ardara Town Traders, this exciting and colorful event will see 150 of the country's best young riders take on some of Ireland's most difficult cycling terrain.

Pre-registration open for Dromara CC’s Road Race at Bishopscourt

For 2013 Dromara Cycling Club has been given the opportunity to run their annual open road races on the privately owned motorcycle circuit, Bishopscourt, in Downpatrick. The races will be held on Saturday 8 June 2013.

The circuit has recently undergone significant investment to improve the track and facilities and is now one of the top circuits in Ireland. The full circuit is just over 2 miles long and offers a wide expanse of pristine tarmac with sweeping corners. Photos of the circuit can be found on the venue's website HERE.… Read more
