25/07/2013 NI ’25’ Championships.

Gold For McIntyre, Curran , Lowry, Laverty and Phoenix in NI 25 Champs.

Thunder storms with heavy rain rattled through the course 90-minutes prior to the start but thankfully the storm had cleared leaving clear blue sky behind, which was just reward to the 54 Riders (some Madigan riders riding in a club event within the race) who took the chance to attend in the hope it would pass-over. A clear winner on the night was Greg Swinand from South Africa now based in Dublin riding for Usher Irish Road.  … Read more


Super 6 TT Tomorrow Postponed.

The super 6 TT to be held on the Woodgreen circuit tomorrow by East Tyrone and Island Wheelers has been postponed, please pass the word on to anyone who might be attending.  Please see the statement from the organisers below.

We have selected another date for the next round of the EMS6. Please note the round scheduled for this Saturday is cancelled due to many riders wishing to ride the Wallace Caldwell and Omagh 3 day. The next round will be on the 15th August at Woodgreen with the final round taking place on 31st August also now at Woodgreen.… Read more


Good Luck to Enda

enda marron 2Enda Marron from Northern CC, Dave Kane Cycles is off to Italy this week to  compete in the 37th Giro delle Dolomiti. The Giro is a six day age group  race  held in the Dolomites each year.

The Bolzano based event is hotly  contested by  Italian and German clubs and is one of the few UCI stage races open  to club  cyclists.

Enda is the sole cyclist from Ireland and will race  without  team-mates. It is hoped that this event will become more popular with  Cycling  Ireland members in future years.… Read more


Dowling, McCarter and Swenarton Win in Banbridge.

Racing returned to the high street in Banbridge on Wednesday night when Banbridge CC hosted their evening of criterium races.  Previously held outside the town at The Outlet shopping park, race organisers were able to secure a town centre closed circuit of just over 1km with all races starting and finishing on the town’s main Newry St. thanks to support from the local council and PSNI.

Three races were promoted on the night. Race 1 catered for the Over 50s and ladies which consisted of racing for 20 minutes + 3 laps, race 2 catered for A3 riders with 30 mins + 5 laps while the main and final race of the evening was reserved for the A1 & A2 riders  who would race for 45 mins + 5 laps. … Read more

The county town of Omagh is the place to be this weekend for the best A4 racing cyclists across Ireland. Omagh Wheelers Cycling Club promotes the Tour of Omagh 3-day cycle race over the weekend of 26-28th July. Despite entering only it’s fourth year, the race has gone from strength to strength under the supervision of Race Organiser Mark McAleer. In 2012, both Mark and the event received a boost with the addition of Race Director Stevie McKenna and both men are onboard again this year aiming to build on its reputation as one of the best races of its kind in Ireland.… Read more


2013 National MTB XC Championships at Garvagh Forest

The 2013 National Mountain Bike Cross-Country Championships took place in Garvagh Forest in the town of Garvagh on Sunday 21 July and was hosted by Carn Wheelers. The timing for the race was perfect after a 2 week heat wave in Northern Ireland which left the trails bone dry and dusty. The club had put in a huge effort in creating the trails with lots of variety, from long fire roads allowing ample overtaking possibilities to fast flowing single track, bomb holes, dual slalom descents and only two notable short climbs.… Read more


Maryland Wheelers ‘club run / bun run’ For The McCall Foundation This Saturday.

DMcCMaryland Wheelers 'club run / bun run' on Saturday 27th of July will be leaving The Lisburn Leisureplex at 0930for The BallyGally Hotel on the antrim coast.

There will be a sign-on from 0900 and day licences are available, these cost £2 which goes to Cycling Ireland.

The route is marked with white arrows and 'BR' to indicate Bun Run directions to and from the BallyGally, (78 miles.)

All participants are asked to donate £10 to the foundation although your scones and refreshments at the hotel will be paid for from this and will be available from 1130 to 1230.

Collins and Hunter triumph in Foyle GP.

IMG_2511Following on from the massive success of the Maiden City Crit Foyle CC turned its attentions to its first ever open road race.  Run on the banks of the Foyle the races' start/finish point was 1 mile out of Derry in the border town of Killea Co Donegal.

With an 11 mile lap taking in the short sharp drag of Carriagan's Brea before its brief return to the north via Nixon's Corner and back into the start finish area in Killea; the climb would prove the place to launch any attacks .… Read more


N. Ireland 25 Mile Time Trial Champs this Thursday 25th July at Woodgreen.

Team Madigan Cycling Club will promote the 2013 N. Ireland 25 Mile Time Trial Championships this Thursday 25th July 2013 at 7.00pm on the Woodgreen circuit on the (A26) South of Ballymena, Co. Antrim.  (Junior, Seniors, Veterans / no youth riders due to distance)!

McLaughlin and Gallagher Win Donegal Kermesse.

DSC_2395On Saturday Donegal Bay Cycling Club held their first open race, The 'Donegal Bay Kermesse'. The prize fund of €750 sponsored by Ted's Bike Shop and KOH primes sponsored by Donegal Bay Oysters. The name coming from Belgian style racing, a short circuit with numerous laps. This format of the race made it great for the spectators but tough on the riders. The village of Mountcharles provided the perfect location for a challenging circuit and stunning scenery.

The course took the riders right along the waters edge of Donegal Bay.… Read more
