Ulster nominees include Stephen McKenna, Omagh Wheelers, Amy Brice, Fraser Duncan, The Giants Causeway Sportive and Rás Dhun na nGall. Voting is simple - you only need your licence number so don't just sit back. Take time to vote.

Well Done to Ulster Team at Games

photo 4The Cycling Ulster executive would like to congratulate all our young mountain bikers on a very successful trip to Hadleigh Farm. The Cycling Ulster Slane Cycles team worked hard and scooped another medal and gain a great deal of experience over the three days. We would also like to thank manager Nicola Oldham and assistants Simon Curry and William Mulligan as well as all the other volunteers who helped out and supported the riders. Aiken Dominates at Opening CX Event

The first round of the 2013 Ulster Cyclo-cross series took place on Sunday 6 October at Lurgan Park.  The weather was overcast with a strong breeze but it was warm and the park, magnificent in autumn colours, was busy with walkers as well as cyclists.  The crew from Apollo CT and the local park staff were on site from 7 am laying out the course which covered a wide expanse of the park.  The conditions were good, despite having rain for four days up to Thursday, the dry, warm weather on Friday and Saturday had left the course running well.  … Read more


Arlene Foster Attends Giro Launch in Milan

image001Tourism Minister Arlene Foster has told an audience of influential international and Italian media that Northern Ireland is developing a strong position in the global tourism and sports events industry. The Minister was speaking today in Milan at a media launch announcing the full race route of the Giro d’Italia.

The Grand Tour cycling race, one of the world’s biggest sporting spectacles, begins in Belfast with the Grand Partenza or Big Start in May 2014.

The launch was attended by hundreds of international broadcast and print journalists, including La Gazzetta dello Sport, Italy’s most widely-read national daily and the official newspaper for the race.… Read more

Inter Regional MTB Report Day 2 – Curry Takes bronze

Handicap XC Race
This was a 20 min Handicap XC Race race with the grid based on the results from the Skills event yesterday. Ulster had some excellent grid positions with Shannon 6th place, James 11th and Richard 14th. Unfortunately Shannon punctured on the 1st lap, James raced well to finish 9th place. With Shenna, Cameron and Calvin having to start 70 sec from the first rider they all did well and finished mid field out of 56 riders in each race.

This was short explosive racing, held on a mixture of flat hard pack, technical climbs and descents.… Read more


Ulster 100 Mile TT Championships 2013 Gallery

bryanThe Ulster 100 mile TT Championships promoted by Ballymoney at the end of September produced two new records, Senior Record taken by Bryan McCrystal of Cuchulainn (3:34:52) and a new Veteran's record by John Madden of Curran Racing (3:42:49). Both records are subject to ratification by Cycling Ireland .

The event attracted twenty six riders on a warm but breezy day.

Opportunities to Develop Coaching Skills

Cycling Ireland will be hosting several coaching courses in Ulster in the next few months. Two of these have been confirmed. The first of these is the Gearing Up Off Road course and it will take place on 12th & 13th October 2013 in Tollymore, Co Down. This is a two day course and will be on from   9.00am to 5:30pm. Updates from Hadleigh Farm

Today was the first day of the competition on the inter-regional mtb championships at Hadleigh farm. It consisted of a Skills Event and the Cycling Ulster Slane Cycles Team performed well but had mixed fortunes in this event.

Skills Event
This skills course was designed on the same standard as what was used at the European MTB Championships course in Austria this year. A highly technical and challenging course based over 7 stages with 3 points per stage to be gained. The team performed strongly in this opening event under huge pressure from silenced crowds watching and under the watchful eye of commissaires on each section.… Read more


Ulster Clubs Work Together to Promote Youth Cycling

DSC_0209In a very welcome announcement from Maurice McAllister of Ballymoney we have been informed that a number of clubs have decided to get together to promote and develop Youth Cycling with a particular emphasis on the road.

Maurice McAllister said,
“It is an undisputed consensus that our youth and junior cyclists are the future of the sport of cycling. The objective and ambition for the immediate next five years for these core clubs is to see the development and progression of our youth and junior riders.”

The David McCall Foundation which has a particular interest in developing and supporting young riders has also come on board to offer support.… Read more


Ulster Cyclo-cross season starts this Sunday

The 2013 Ulster Cyclo-cross season kicks off on Sunday 6 October at Lurgan Park, hosted by Apollo CT. This is first of 8 rounds and the return to an excellent venue which has played host to cyclo-cross (CX) races for many years, including national championships. Many thanks to Craigavon Borough Council for their continued support.

The main cyclo-cross races take place at 1 pm however there is a full schedule before this with sign on opening at 09:30 the first race of the day will be the fun race for the Under 6s which starts at 10:30.… Read more
