Watson and Gault Supreme at Danny Boy Races

dbOn Sunday Roe Valley promoted their annual Danny Boy Races for A3's, A4's Women and Masters. This was an ideal opportunity forA3's and  A4's to come along and get points in separate races. In the A3 event it was Foyle CC strongman Lawrence Watson who kept his cool and took the win ahead of  Barry Russell  of  Carn Wheelers and Alan Little of Four Masters CC.

In the A4 Race it was Johnny Gault of Causeway CC who took the win ahead of East Antrim's Kyle Browne and Northern's Peter Morrison.… Read more


Duncan Takes Red Hand Trophy

aThere was a full field of riders for the tough Red Hand Trophy Road Race on Saturday promoted by Ballymena CRC. With the Easter Stage races just over a month away  the race attracted the top riders from around the country who wanted to get tough miles in the legs in preparation for these events.

With the support of the PSNI outriders the event took the riders through many of the small towns of North Antrim and the racing was fast and furious.

In the end it was the onform Fraser Duncan pf Northern Dave Kane who took the win from Ronan McLaughlin of Dig Deep Inspired Cycling.… Read more


Cycling Represented at Commonwealth Day at Stormont

aThis year's Commomwealth Day celebrations which take place on the second Monday in March were themed as Team Commonwealth partly to highlight the amount of team work which goes into preparing athletes for major competition. Obviously with the Commmonwealth Games now only months away it was very appropriate.

With cycling being one of the medal winning sports at the last Games in Delhi, the governing body, Cycling Ulster,  was invited to attend by the Speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly, Mr William Hay who is also President of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association in NI.… Read more

Lively Group at Newry Safeguarding

There was a good turnout of clubs from the Newry area when Cycling Ulster ran their latest Safeguarding Course in Warrenpoint. The course was held at the request of Newry Wheelers but there were participants from VC Iveagh, Shimna Wheelers, TVR and Tandeming Together.

The evening provoked a lot of discussion and many questions. The group were well informed and obviously interested in understanding the correct procedures and having the right policies in place before beginning their work with youth and/or vulnerable adults.

Reminder – PJ Logan Opens Tonight

PJ Logan Cup Road Race 2014  Sunday 30th March 2014
The online entry for the PJ Logan promoted by Island Wheelers will open tonight, 12th March at 9pm.
Below are some further details.
Sign on from 9:00am at Gortgonis Centre, Coalisland.  Riders will be neutralised to race start at 11:45am – the first race will start at 12pm. A full rider information pack will be available on the Island Wheelers website the week before the race.

Race 1 for A* A1, A2 – 9 laps – 99 km approx (70 rider limit + waiting list)
Race 2 for A3's  – 7 laps – 77 km approx (70 rider limit + waiting list)
Race 3 for A4's - 5 laps – 55 km approx (65 rider limit + waitinglist)
Race 4 for Ladies – 3 laps – 33km approx – sign up on the morning for this race

Apollo Cycle Team Andalusian 6 day MTB race

dkaDerek King and Fred MacSorley, both riders in their early 60’s entered the Andalusian 6 day MTB race. Trace now in its 4th year is,  by all accounts, growing in popularity and professionalism every year.

We  decided to purchase a support package from a firm called Pure Mountains and this, like good travel insurance, proved it’s worth from the moment we arrived at Malaga Airport on Friday February 28th when Jenny from Pure Mountains was waiting for us and within a few minutes we were in her landrover with our bike bags secured in the trailer heading for our accommodation in a beautiful villa complex in the hills overlooking Malaga.… Read more

Lots of Racing at St Pat’s Weekend

There are four races on offer over the St Patrick's Day holiday period.
Red Hand Trophy Saturday 15th March
First off is the Red Hand promoted by Ballymena Chain Reaction. This is a tough race and will act as a good preparation for the Easter stage races. The event head quarters for the Red Hand will be in the Rex Bonar Club House, 103 Railway St,  Ballymena, BT42 2AF.

Ulster Teams Selected for Major Races

Red Hand Trophy:
The first Cycling Ulster road teams of the year have been confirmed for the Red Hand Trophy and the Des Hanlon. A junior team will line up for the Red Hand trophy and will consist of Craig McCauley, Aaron Swan, Darnell Moore and Ryan Reilly. It's encouraging to see for the first junior team of the year the Cycling Ulster team has three riders making their debuts at this level to keep up the recent band of youth riders successfully coming through to junior level.… Read more


Murphy Lifts McCann Cup – A Results Revised

aThere was a veritable feast of racing on offer all day when Omagh Wheelers promoted their annual McCann Cup.

First into the fray this morning were the Masters. There was a good field of twenty five riders for this event and the pace was relatively high throughout with an average of 23 miles per hour.

The group remained together for much of the event. Wise heads reckoned it was not a day to go it alone. As a result it all came down to a bunch sprint which was taken by Banbridge's Paul McGuckin.… Read more


Talent 2020 Team Hit Banbridge

aIt was a packed day of activities for the Neenan Travel 2020 Girls Talent Team when they held their first camp in Ulster. However since the entire squad who were able to attend were all from the Province it was great that we could host the day.

Bridge Integrated Primary School in Banbridge was the headquarters for the Talent Team and everyone was very appreciative of the facilities on offer. The staffroom had been given over for the main talks of the day while facilities were on hand to heat food and make coffee.… Read more
