RIP Billy Stewart – Funeral arrangements added

It is with great sadness that we have learned of the death of Billy Stewart, president of Maryland Wheelers. Bily had acquired many accolades on his lifetime.,Stewarty, as he was often called, was a true gentleman and an ambassador for sport in Northern Ireland and around the world.

Billy joined Maryland in 1952 and would hold the roles of club secretary, chairman and president in 1981, succeeding Tommy Givan after his death while out training.

Billy was the N.I. Commonwealth Games council cycling representitive from 1958 going on to be a member of the U.K.'s council and was the Commonwealth Games councils 'chef de mission' in 2006. Read more

Aiken Does it Again in National CX Champs

aRoger Aiken of Team ASEA proved too strong for the talented David Montgomery of Chain Reaction Cycles in the  Dromara CC promoted National Cyclocross Championships in Tollymore Forest Park. Aiken who is never to be discounted whether on road or off showed his exceptional talent on Sunday when he powerted through the technical course in all sorts of weather to win the event by over a minute over Montgomery.

Glenn Kinning of Kinning Cycles had to be content with the bronze medal position for the third time in three successive Championships.… Read more

Safeguarding Updates

Following the recent Cycling Ulster EGM, Lisa Millar of Dromara CC was elected as Lead Safeguarding Officer for Ulster. Lisa has also been added as  a Designated Signatory for AccessNI. Her pin number is 583767 and applicants seeking to apply for an AccessNI Disclosure Certificate can use this number or that of the Lead Designated Signatory, Marian Lamb whose Pin Number is 864278.

Further changes have been made to the AccessNI process. From 2nd November the Unbrella or Registered Body will not receive a copy of an applicant's AccessNI Disclosure Certificate.… Read more

Declan Mullholland Signs for Top Irish Team

Eighteen year old , first year under 23, Declan Mulholland has signed up to race in Ireland for the 2016 season for one of Ireland's top teams ASEA  Wheelworx. Declan who successfully raced in Belguim last season as part of the D.C.M.team has opted to stay at home this season in order to gain more experience and harder racing. He told us at Ulster Cycling News that he is very happy been a part of such a strong  experienced team with top riders like Brian McCrystal, Adam Armstrong, Fraser Duncan and Rodger Aiken.… Read more

Congratulations to new National Elite and Grade B Commissaires

Martin Grimley, of Dromara Cycling Club is to be congratulated on his recent successful completion of the Mountain Bike Elite National Commissaire Course. Well known throughout the off road scene, Martin attended the course which was run by the UCI in Budapest last month, and he is now a qualified Elite National Commissaire MTB.

Congratulations are also due to Cycling Ulster’s newly qualified National Grade B Commissaires. Following a Commissaire training course in February, promoted by Cycling Ulster and hosting the Cycling Ireland College of Commissaires, the Trainee Commissaires have been serving their apprenticeship on the Ulster races throughout the 2015 season.… Read more

In 2015 Cycling Ulster had sent a cross-country mountain bike team to the British NPS series. The Off-road Commission is now looking for expression of interest from riders who wish to join this team to compete at the British events in 2016.  As per 2015 the team will be made up of a maximum of 4 riders.
