Youth and Women Get your entries in for North Down GP

The Youth and Women events in the North Down GP which incorporates the Northern Ireland Championships are in danger of being cancelled if riders do not get their entries in. In the past entry for the women and Youth riders has been taken on the day but North Down want pre-entry this year in order to plan effectively. Congratulations to Irish Juniors in Isle of Man

The Juniors competing on the Irish National Team in last weekend's Isle of Man Youth Tour put in a credible performance over the three days of racing. In the final GC they emerged as second team overall just four and a half minutes behind overall winners, Hargroves Cycles. They also had three riders in the top twenty in final GC with Conor McIlwaine 9th, Ryan Mullan 11th and Jack Wilson 13th. Williams Claims 2011 Tour of Ulster

Pete Williams of the Motorpoint outfit retained his overall lead in the 2011 Dungannon and South Tyrone Tour of Ulster on the final 75 mile stage around Coalisland today. From the start the Motorpoint outfit controlled the race on the narrow figure of eight course, making it difficult for any significant breaks to get away.

However Martyn Irvine of the Cycling Ulster Slane Cycles team seized his chance going into the second lap and rode clear from the bunch to take the first KoH points in today’s event.… Read more


Winds of Change at Tour of Ulster Day 2

With another eighty three miles of racing and an evening hill climb TT to follow, one might have expected the pace to ease up on the today’s stage of the Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council Tour of Ulster. With five KoH climbs enroute and the sting in the tail Cat 1 climb to the finish line the race was always going to be tough and common sense might have dictated an easier pace.However this was not to be the case. McCann Lifts First Yellow Jersey In Tour of Ulster

The Cycling Ulster Slane Cycles team comprising Martyn Irvine, Ronan McLaughlin, Philip Lavery, Stuart Henry and Ryan Connor got off to a great start in the first stage of the 201l Tour of Ulster. They were active in all the moves throughout the day and worked hard as a team to cover all the bases.

Ninety seven riders set out from Dungannon today to cover more than 80 miles around County Tyrone in this first stage sponsored by JR Cycles of Dungannon. The start list featured the best of Irish cycling with, among many others, Giant Asia’s David McCann, Paidi O’Brien (SportActive Engraveit An Chuirt Sionen), Sean Lacey the Edge Racing Team and Adam Armstrong of Eurocycles, the 2010 winner of the Tour.… Read more


Coalisland GP Results

A full field of riders took part in Friday nights Coalisland GP on the Argory circuit promoted by Island Wheelers. The A4's were given a 3 minute handicap to A3 but on the short, fast circuit the gap dropped rapidly.

By the second last lap the two bunches were together and the pace was extremely fast. On the narrow circuit it was going to be difficult to wait for a bunch sprint so in the closing miles Mark Brown of Phoenix, Gavin McKernan(Omagh) and Shaun Grey of East Tyrone made a break for it.… Read more


Start List for Tour of the Mournes

The start list for the Tour of the Mournes which will be promoted by Newry Wheelers next Sunday 8th May is now available. The entry this year has been enormous and Newry Wheelers have tried to allocate places to club riders where possible. If you are down on the start list but are unable to attend for any reason please contact Mark Campbell as soon as possible so that your place can be allocated to someone on the reserve list. Red Hand Trophy now Open for Entries

The second round of the Slane Cycles Ulster Classic League takes place on the 14th May when Ballymena RC host the Blair International Red Hand Trophy. This race is one of the real classics in the calendar and will be one of the tough training races for anyone considering riding the An Post Rás. The Red Hand Trophy dates back to 1898 and is possibly one of the oldest and long standing events in the calendar. This event receives full PSNI support as it winds its way from Broughshane through the Glens of Antrim, an arduous 70 miles.… Read more

The Coalsiland GP s set to take place this Friday. This new event open to A3 and A4 riders was pre-entry and sold out in less than six hours.
