Mayo Youth Tour – Ulster Team Selection

There will be Ulster U16 and U14 Youth Teams selected to participate in the 2011 Mayo Youth Tour which takes place from 30th July – 1st August. Cycling Ulster Youth Commission Chair George Boyd said “This is a prime target for youth racers across Ireland and from further abroad and Ulster will field representative teams for the event."

Under 14s to be managed by Mary Boyd.
Under 16s to be managed by George Boyd.

Wilson, Williams and Clarke New 2011 NI Champions

Peter Williams (Shelbourne Motors/Orchard CC) and Heather Wilson (Maryland Wheelers) claimed Champion's jerseys on Sunday at the Northern Ireland RR Championship promoted by North Down CC. Following a busy morning of organising events for Youth, Over 50's and A4's, the well-oiled machine that is North Down churned into action again in the afternoon by promoting the two Championship events for Seniors.

A full field of over 60 riders entered the men's race which covered nine laps of the course, totalling 74 miles. Last year’s winner Gary Cranston returned to defend his title backed by a strong East Antrim team while last year's runner-up, Stuart Henry (Herbalife) was hoping to improve on last year's result.… Read more

Irvine Breaks Red Hand Course Record

Martyn Irvine of Giant Kenda romped home a clear winner in today's tough 70 mile Blair International Red Hand Trophy in Broughshane. Irvine completed the course in a time of 2.31.50 and in doing so beat the 15 year old record for this race of 2.35.52 set by Tommy Evans in 1996.

The race today saw the riders battle against tough winds, sunshine, heavy showers and hailstones not to talk of the hard roads and long climbs. The race took off from the Michelin Club in Broughshane and almost immediately the riders were faced with the lumpy climb towards Clough before heading to Loughguile and across to Ballycastle.… Read more

Only 2 Days Left to Enter Rás Dhun na nGall

Glengesh, Once Cycled never forgotton. Only two yays left to enter Rás Dhun na nGall at reduced rate. The Four Masters Cycling Club, in conjunction with the Nesbitt Arms Hotel and the Ardara Traders, has just announced that the 2011 Ras Dhun na nGall three-day stage race will take place in Ardara, Co. Donegal on the 3rd, 4th and 5th of June. Online entry and an accommodation list are now available on the club website.

Cycling Ulster will be entering a Junior team in the tough Rás Dhun na nGall which will be held over the weekend of the 3rd - 5th June. Ballymena Rc have informed us that they have had to change the venue of the Red Hand Trophy to the Michelin Club on the Woodside Rd as Broughshane Community Centre is no longer available. Sign-on will take place at the Michelin club and showers , changing facilities and refreshments will be available there after the event. McCrystal Time Trials to Victory at Newry

The All Ireland 100 mile record holder, Bryan McCrystal of Cuchullainn pushed his endrance testing skills to the limit today to claim victory in the Tour of the Mournes. He rode clear of the eighty strong field in the opening miles of the event promoted by Newry Wheelers and as the race sped along the coast he gradually built up clear advantage on the chasers.

Outstanding Medal Success For Irish Paracyclists in Sydney

The Irish Paracycling Team of Mark Rohan, Cathal Miller and Colin Lynch accompanied by Manager Denis Toomey and Coach Brian Nugent have proved it was worth travelling to Sydney for the opening round of the 2011 UCI Para-cycling Road World Cup. In total the team have picked up three gold, one silver and one bronze medal in the competition.This will give them valuable rankings points which will go towards the Paralympics in London in 2012.

On Day 1 Mark Rohan won Gold in a Road Race following a hard fought win against the Canadian athlete after both broke clear on the first lap.… Read more

Tour of the Mournes Additional Information

Newry Wheelers Tour of the Mournes Road Race takes place this Sunday 8th May. Sign on will be in Newry Hockey Club on the Belfast Road as per usual with Shower and changing facilities available. Sign on from 9.15 - 10.00am. Race will start at 10-30 sharp rolling out from the Hockey Club.

Race Finish - Opposite Autoline Insurance building on the Rathfriland Road. Distance 60miles route map can be viewed below.
