Three Crits this Week

Tuesday 16th June Antrim Crit (Round 3 Seat Super Seven Crit Series)
On Tuesday the Randalstown Old Bleach Club is hosting another round of the popular Seat Criterium Series. The weill be running three events in the night to cater for U16 Boys and Girls, Masters and Women and the main race of the evening which os for A1- A3 riders. The race schedule can be found below.

Sign on opens at 6-30pm, closes at 7-30pm and will be located at Market Square, out the back of The Old Courthouse, Antrim. Read more

Lots of Winners at Bobby Crilly

aToday Phoenix CC ran three races to cover all senior categories including a National League event when they promoted the Draynes Farm Bobby Crilly Memorial Road Race.

This event is renowned for its tough hilltop finish on Divis Mountain outside Belfast. The A race catered for A1 and A2 riders and those in contention for the National League were all gathered.This group had to do four laps of the ten mile circuit before heading for Divis.

Almost from the gun a group of seven riders broke away and managed to gain a lead of over a minute on the main field.… Read more

Irish National Championships on Eurosport

Flagship Road Event Set For Broadcast on 'The Home of Cycling'
This year's Women's and Men's elite road races at the National Cycling Championships will be televised for the first time on British Eurosport. Ireland's top road racers will feature in a half-hour highlights show to be broadcast in the week following the championships in Omagh, Co Tyrone on June 27th 28th. The best of Ireland's local racers will be joined by many of the continental-based riders in the fight for the coveted national champions jerseys.… Read more

McCrystal Dominant in National Series – Bobby Crilly Next Counter

McCrystal Dominant as National Series Resumes on Ulster`s roads.

The Cycling Ireland National Road Series resumes on Saturday, kicking off a double-bill of counting rounds in a busy weekend of top flight domestic racing. On Saturday the action shifts to Ulster for the Draynes Farm Bobby Crilly Classic event which will take place on the roads of County Antrim promoted by Belfast`s Phoenix club, which features its unique mountain top finish at the summit of the Divis Mountain service road normally closed to traffic. The event sees the series reach round 10 in the 16 round programme, with riders having to record their best 5 scores but must compete in 3 Provinces.… Read more

Competitive Events this Week

TVR Open TT Series Tonight - Wednesday 10th June
Round 3 of the  TVR Open Time Trial Series continues tonight at Warrenpoint Docks with sign-on from 6.00pm and first trider off at 7.00pm. The weather is set to be fine and warm so it should be a good night for testers. The first rider is off at 7.00pm. Licence and a rear red light are mandatory. The Veteran's category is replaced with a Master's 50 + category.

Fathers Day 25 TT - Sunday 14th June
On Sunday Ballymoney CC will be hosting the Father's Day TT at Woodgreen which has been changed from 21st as it clashed with the Gran Fondo.… Read more

Fyffe Takes Round 2 of Seat Crit in Derry

aThe second round of the Seat Super Seven Crit Series took place in Derry when Foyle CC ran their annual Maiden City Criterium. The club were put on force putting up barricades and setting up marquees from early on in the evening.

The crit itself is a great event which certainly tests the riders as they have to face the climb up Ship Quay Street every lap as well as some technical cornering on the back straight.

Crit in the Park Open for Entry Today

On the evening of Friday 19th June, Phoenix CC will be running the ever popular ‘CRIT IN THE PARK’ in Ormeau Park, Belfast. The programme on the night will include:- Youth Racing for U10, U12, U14, U16 as well as Senior races for Women, A3,  A4 and  Phoenix club riders.
Senior races will be 35 mins; 40 mins & 45mins  respectively and will be limited to *35 riders/race*

This is a very safe, traffic free environment for young riders. This style of racing is great for both competitors and spectators alike, so either way come along and help make it a fabulous night for all.… Read more

Great Racing at Bishopscourt

aJames Ambrose (North Down CC) won the Emma McMullan Memorial Cup at Bishopscourt motor racing circuit on Saturday 6th June. Ambrose from Portavogie won on the attack early in the 15 lap race (31.5 miles) along with strong Dundalk man Alan Bingham in the sprint for the line for a memorable victory.

Paul Wilkinson (West Down wheelers) was third at 42 seconds with Emmet Vallely (Square Wheels) who was 4th, Lindsay Watson (Plush MTB) 5th and  Davy Mc Knight (TVR) 6th.

The windy conditions made it a tough day to race on the exposed motor racing circuit.… Read more

Overall Victory to Honore

aThe day dawned bright and sunny for the final stage of Rás Dhun na nGall although there was still a strong wnd to contend with.

The women set off first and were riding well. Claire McIlwaine of Phoenix was in Pink and looked determined to remain as the leader.

The first climb out of Ardara, The Nick, came just two and a half miles into the race already it began to sort out tired legs as riders were peeling off the back of the bunch.

The women were still together at this point preferring to save their legs for the long clibs ahead.… Read more

Honore Seems Unstoppable in Donegal

aStage three started at 2.30pm from Ardara and was a fifty mile road race taking in Ardara- Clooney- Glenties- Fintown- Doochary- Glenties- Ardara. This race was blown apart from early on not just by the strong winds which the riders faced but by the Danish junior Mikkel Honoré who has dominated this year’s Rás Dhun na nGall.

Honoré who is guesting for Errigal CC went from the gun and had opened up a lead of over a minute within the first ten miles of racing. He went on to take all the King of the Mountains points at Doctor’s Brae in Glenties, the Corkscrew outside of Doochary and then again at Doctor’s Brae in Glenties.… Read more
