Great Fields for All Championships – Start Lists Added

Omagh will be a busy place this weekend as hordes of cyclists and cycling enthusiasts descend on the town for the Blue Ribband event of Irish Cycling, namely the National Championships.

The first event takes place on Thursday night with the Time Trial Championships for Women, Elite Men, Tandem and Paracyclists. Ulster has representation in almost all categories. Gary McKeegan and Stuart Scott of Team Madigan will be riding Tandem while Samuel Cunningham (Ballymoney CC) in  H1-H5 class and Chris Burns (Banbridge CC) and Phoenix duo Andrew Nicholson and Daniel Daly compete in the C1-C5 class.… Read more

Deignan Will Contest National Title

aDiegnan to make his bid for Irish title in Ulster

Omagh Wheelers Cycling Club has confirmed another big World Tour name to the Nationals start line this coming weekend. Donegal man Philip Deignan, riding for Team Sky, has confirmed he will be making the journey to Omagh in his bid to become Irish champion in his native province of Ulster.

Philip Deignan became the first Irishman to ride for Team Sky in 2014 and immediately established himself as a key member of the squad. Now in his 11th year as a pro, Phil has amassed an enviable stage race record including eight Grand Tour appearances and a host of impressive results.… Read more

Matt Brammeier confirmed for Nationals

aProlific Irish Professional Matt Brammeier, has added his name to a fantastic line up for the Irish National cycling championships this coming weekend in Omagh, Co Tyrone. Brammeier is a five-time Irish National champion, having won the national road race on 4 occasions (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013) and the time trial once (2011). He currently rides for pro continental team MTN-Qhubeka / Samsung, having joined the African team in mid-January.

And it seems he is in perfect form for the big event having blasted to a career best win at the weekend ZLM Toer in Holland.… Read more

Competitive Events This Week

The National Championships take place in Omagh this week with the TT on Thursday, Women and Masters races on Saturday and the Elite Men on Sunday. More information on these can be found HERE . There is also the Super Six TT on Wednesday and the Lurgan criterium on Friday for those who are seeking competition.

Lots of racing at the Crit in the Park.

The annual Crit in the Park event held by Phoenix CC in Ormeau park in Belfast attracted a wide range of riders again this year.  There were a few light showers but the racing aggressive racing was not dampened by them.

The evening started with an U10s race over two laps of the circuit.  All the riders rode their hearts out and showed true racing spirit.… Read more

Macauley Victorious at Audi GP

aThe Audi GP promoted by East Antrim Audi took place today in warm sunshine. The 64 mile race saw the riders cover eight laps of the 7.9 mile circuit around Ballynure. The race catered for A1 to A3 riders and included a long drag which was to prove the undoing for many.

Early into the race a break got away which included Curtis Gilmore (Team Madigan), Ali Macauley  (Team ASEA), Des Woods (Newry Wheelers), Conor McCann (NRPT Magnet.ie) and Ryan Reilly (AC Bisontine).

This group steadily increased their lead on the chasing pack.… Read more

Cranston Takes Ards Crit

Last night will go down in Ards CC history as one of our great events – big fields, an enthusiastic crowd, sporty motor cars, and an Ards CC winner. Excellent!

First up was the crowd’s favourite – the novice event. The race was run as a short handicap, with the under 6s getting a 30 second start on the under 8s, and a further 30s to the older kids. It was great to see the stars of the future in action. One of last year’s heroes, Bradley Kinning, had graduated from a balance bike to pedals this year.… Read more

Exciting Racing at Antrim Crit

aCrit racing returned to Antrim town last night for the first time in many years. The event which formed Round 3 of the Seat Crit Series was promoted by Old Bleach Cycling Club of Randalstown in conjuction with Antrim's programme of festivities.

First off were the U16's who were fairly evenly matched and so no-one was giving ground and the racing was fast. Riders such as Xeno Young (U/A) and Niall Lawrence (Bann Valley) were  fresh from hard racing on the track at the Duane Delaney event last weekend in Dublin.… Read more

Junior Tour Open – Expressions of Interest Sought

Following on from the recent announcement of a new title sponsor for the Junior Tour of Ireland by Scott Bicycles, Race Organiser Alice Sherratt has now announced that entries are open for the 2015 edition which will once again be held around the roads of County Clare in the West of Ireland.

Early indications are showing that there will be an increase in the number of riders competing in this years race from both home and abroad with foreign teams from the USA, South Africa, France, Scotland, The Netherlands and the U.K already confirming their intentions to line out against the Irish from July 14th -19th.… Read more

More Competitive Events this Week

This is another busy week for cycling as many clubs are running events for Bikeweek. There are also lots of open competitive events in the calendar. There are three crits this week - Tuesday in Antrim, Wednesday in Ards and Friday in Belfast.  Click HERE for more infomation about these. There is a time trial on Thursday promoted by Spires CC and the Audi GP, promoted by East Antrim Audi takes place on Saturday. More information on these last two events below.
