Newry 3 day – after stages 2 and 3 Heverin takes the lead

John Heverin (TVR) is the new leader of the Newry 3-Day after winning this afternoons Stage 3 time trial of 3.7 miles. The renowned tester from Lurgan clocked a time of 7 minutes 57 seconds to win by 8 seconds from Derek Cunningham (Bikeworx, Dublin). James Ambrose (North Down CC) did an excellent performance to place third at 9 seconds while Jake Gray (Nicholas Roche Performance Team) was fifth at 16 seconds dropping to third overall behind Heverin and Cunningham.… Read more

Clann Eireann CC Tour of Armagh 2015 – cancelled

It is with regret that Clann Eireann CC has reluctantly taken the decision to cancel the 2015 Tour of Armagh (Sunday 02 August).

The Tour of Armagh, first run in 1961, has been a stalwart feature of the Irish racing calendar for the last 50-plus years, but as we all know, ‘change’ is one of life’s inevitabilities. The decision by the race organising committee was made all the more difficult given last year’s cancellation also. The club had hoped that the advent of the national league series and the potential for the Tour of Armagh to be included in that series, might have provided a much needed boost to senior racing numbers in the latter part of the season.… Read more

Damian Shaw Is National Champion

aMullingar man Damian Shaw (Team Asea) is the 2015 National champion after a dominant performance in the 105 mile race in Omagh, County Tyrone today.

Shaw attacked the silver medal winner Eddie Dunbar (NFTO) in the last few miles and soloed to the finish in Omagh town centre where a great crowd applauded a most deserving winner. Dunbar was one minute down at the finish line but the Cork teenager was also a winner as he took the under 23 gold medal. Connor Dunne (An Post-Chain Reaction) was also alone in third as was Belfast man Connor McConvey (3M) in fourth.… Read more

Boylan takes Elite Woman’s Title

aaThe cream of Irish Women Cyclists lined up in Omagh on Saturday afternoon to contest the UCI ranked National Championships. The large field of almost sixty riders included top professionals such as Olivia Dillon  (VisitDallas) and Fiona Meade (Fearless Femmes) as well as the best of the local talent.

By the end of the first lap a group of twelve women had broken away. In this group were Olivia Boylan (WNT), Lydia Gurley (Bonito), Ciara Kinch (Towers CC), Eve McCrystal and Caroline Ryan (Garda CC), Aqua Blue's Siobhan Horgan and Francine Meehan as well as Phoenix CC's Claire McIlwaine among others.… Read more

Three Masters Champions Crowned at Omagh

aThe National Road Race Championships got underway this morning in Omagh with the first of the Masters categories when the M50 and M60 riders took to the road in two championship events. This is the inaugural year of the Master's Championships and Omagh Wheelers, promoters of this year's events, certainly set a challenging course.

The riders had to complete three laps of a fifteen mile circuit which was far from flat. The course took the riders through the centre of the town each lap which also included a sharp up hill section over cobbles.… Read more

Entries Open For Ulster 10 TT, 25TT and RR Championships

Entry for Ulster 10 mile TT Championship Now Open
Pre-Entry for the Ulster 10 Time Trial Championship on Sunday 19th July promoted by Donegal Bay CC is now open. This is a strictly pre-entry event and registration is via the Events Booking section on the Cycling Ireland website.Simply login to your account and use the events button to enter. Closing date for registration is Wednesday 15th July. Entries will not be accepted on the day.

A limited competition is the minimum required. The event will take place on the N15 course at Barnesmore, South Donegal and will be a slightly modified version of the regular Donegal Bay TT circuit which is a straight out and back course.… Read more
